  1. Fooling with scrap metal today I learned that a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant has the exact same wheel bolt pattern as a 1948 Plymouth. Yesterday I changed all the rotors and pads on the the little rice burner and thought, what the heck, give it a try. I have a rear axle hub with no drum on it. The rear rotor fits over it perfectly. The distance from the rear face of the rotor to the rear face of the hub is about 3/16". I mounted the rear rotor on a front hub that is still on a spindle. the distance between the rear face of the rotor and the mouting ears is about 9/16". Thats the good news. Bad news is, the front rotor will not fit either hub.
  2. Most GPS will run a good 3 hours on their internal battery. I have 205/70 15's on my 48 and the speedo shows exactly 8 mph fast.
  3. Since my upper control arm bumpers dissappeared a long time ago, my front end looks a lot worse than that when I jack it up on the center of the front crossmember. But on the ground, its perfect.
  4. Cars will change and maybe even go away, Welding will always be needed.
  5. Tastes like chicken.
  6. You really got a good one there! Looks like someone already converted to a paper air filter for you. Nice steering wheel, too. For all you Canucks; beauty, eh?
  7. My brother used to get WWCA on a razor blade and a safety pin stuck in the window sill. No, I am not kidding.
  8. I use 10w30 or 10w40 that has spent about 3000 miles in my Buick. I never change the oil in the Plymouth because it burns and leaks so much that I just keep adding to it. Not to worry, I never let it get much lower than a quart low.
  9. Yes. The whole circuit needs heavy guage wire. Ground cable also.
  10. Whitewalls without question.
  11. It's been like this since I put it in and it doesn't seem to hurt anything. At least I don't think it does. Maybe I'll mess with that plunger for a while just to amuse myself.
  12. I haven't asked a stupid question in a while, so here's one. My 218 thats been converted to a 230, has always burned oil on accel and decel. The little Bon-Ami fiasco did more harm than good, but consumption has slowed some since then. Here's the question, the oil pressure runs around 60 psi cold at idle. It reaches about 70-75 at running speed before its warmed up good. After its hot, it runs about 60-65 psi. I am beginning to think its spraying more oil on the walls than can be wiped down. Am I grabbing at straws here?
  13. I think if you put the car on four jackstands with the weight off the wheels, it won't make any difference where you start or finish. I did the same thing on a 1960 Olds and it had much stronger springs.
  14. Here is that little motor in an 85 Wartburg 353, probably the world's only diplomatic licensed Wartburg.
  15. I'm going with DKW also because I have personal experience with Wartburgs that use the same engine with minor changes. Damp-Kraft Wagen made in the Audi factory at Zwickau Germany.
  16. Bob, if your car is a 10 footer, mines a half-miler.
  17. Realgonekat, Could you coat your springs with the stuff they use to dip tool handles? Its kind of flexible and comes in colors too. Or maybe bedliner spray?
  18. My car will never be a show car as long as I own it. I have fixed it up so I can drive it. So, its a "fixer-upper" and a "driver".
  19. Simple, check the build date.
  20. The 53 Wehrmacht Enigma had a camoflage paint job and I couldn't find it in my garage. I heard later that in 1988 it surrendered.
  21. I once had a 52 Enigma. Blue 4 door. I couldn't figure how to drive it.
  22. To reinstall the roller bearings, just stick them in with grease. Not guaranteed, but it works for me.
  23. I kinda think that the compass is filled with glycerin, not mineral spirits or any kind of petroleum based liquid since they would eat the plastic. Better check with someone that knows.
  24. Thanks for listening to my prattle, and thanks to Shel Bizzy for the tip on fancast.com. Theres nothing like Rocky and Bullwinkle to change your mood.
  25. Wyoming and Nebraska road condition web sites both say the road is open. As I type I am looking out the window onto I-80, exit 367 and there is very little traffic. Gonna leave in the morning no matter what.
