  1. Just another example of "bigger is better".
  2. Would it do any good to just line the upper and lower spring pockets with something like truck inner tube material? It probably wouldn't absorb any up and down movement, but at least stop it from squeaking ?
  3. Retired after fourty years as a steelworker.
  4. I would think that if you have to hone it more than a few thousandths to get past the pits, thats too much. It would make the bore too big for the cups to seal tight enough. Even a light honing removes some metal, so be careful with your speed and keep it well lubed with brake fluid. Stop often to see if the pits are going away. You can get an idea how much you are removing by watching how much metal is in the fluid.
  5. Then and Now Automotive; Home of the Antique Auto Parts Cellar. www.THEN-NOW.COM antique auto parts cellar, PO box 3, South Weymouth MA 02190 It seems they are doing business as then and now automotive. Ph 781-335-8860 781-335-1579 Taken from a cars and parts magazine for Feb 09
  6. I used to do a lot of simple easy quick stuff for any on the friends relatives or neighbors that had a problem. They always wanted to pay me because they saw it as work. My reply has always been "it ain't work till you gotta do it". Until then its just my way of fooling around keeping busy and having a little fun. Do it while its fun, because it won't always be that way.
  7. Sorry, I did not mean to infer that it was unused when I said "untouched", it is quite well used, but unmodified. The two original tires are absolutely shot, but they are still on their wheels. There is a cushion on the front seat he said was for his back. The idea of standing next to it with the original owner was a bit of a thrill.
  8. just pick up a Scale Model magazine. They are more ads than info.
  9. And what happened to the young guy "alaska48" ?
  10. Not to make you jealoius, Knuckleharley, but I get over to Auburn several times a year. Last year an elderly gentleman acting as a docent walked with my wife and I through the first floor showroom. He asked me what my favorite was and I said, standing in front of a deusy sedan, "that one". I asked what his was and he said "its on the second floor" So we went to see it. A 1929 Deusenberg factory bodied four door sedan. He talked for quite a while and I was just fascinated. It seems he worked at the assembly factory in Indianapolis driving new Deusys off the line onto a field to await delivery. As soon as he could affort to, he bought one. The very one we were standing in front of. It is untouched, unrestored, and even has two of its original tires, both being used as sidemount spares right now. He said they dont do anything to it because it is their "standard" to restore others by. A wonderful old man in his 90's. I should have written down his name. I think he said he got 15 cents a car to drive them off the line, and when it rained, they would pull them with mules. Sorry for the post, but the old guy is, or was a real library of info.
  11. Most of the really nice, (read expensive) die casts are 1/43 scale. You can get some very interesting cars in that scale, even a bathtub Nash. I personally look for 1/18 because I am clumsy and not good with small stuff. Diecasts also come in 1/25, but they are for the most part cheap porrly made toys. Oops, don't mention toys.
  12. Take that starter off and clean the armature shaft where the drive gear slides. It may have been sitting too long and got a little rusty or dirty.
  13. Thanks Norm.
  14. Hmmmmm, I'm thinking a stretch spring that would allow some movement. That would give you something to watch instead of the road. Maybe paint some teeth on the edge,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  15. Didit. Thanx.
  16. Where's that Dairyland meet again?
  17. I think that if you encounter a strong headwind, (passing semi), it would be better to have two brackets unhook from the edge of the post than to have two brackets pulling the the center post out along with the glasses. Just my pessimistic thinking.
  18. I know a Deusenburg is not a mopar, but at sometime Fred or Auggie must have at least said the name "Chrysler", and thats enough connection for me.
  19. OK, since someone mentioned the lottery, heres two that would keep me happy. A 1930 Chrysler 6 four door sedan. Any Deusenberg J or SJ. C'mon lottery.
  20. What you're saying is that unusual places and charges on my card will not throw up a red flag. That is my fear and tells me they will not ever suspect anything is wrong.
  21. I have wondered about that for some time now. I used my mastercard one day here at home and again about 36 hours later in England. No one ever called me about suspicious activity. I have done the same thing in Idaho, Alaska, and even Budapest, Hungary. Never got a call. I fear if someone had my number, I wouldn't know about it until I got the bill.
  22. I had a buddy called "Blue Flame" and not because he had a Chevy six.
  23. I can see the Buick driver on his cell phone, one hand holding the candlestick and the other pressing the earpiece to his head. I bet he was wearing a hat and had his left turn signal on for the last two miles.
  24. Well, Bob, I have a Buick and a Plymouth and I can't be trusted, so your theory works.
  25. Yeah, we're all making up our own anyway.
