  2. All mechanical regulators are terrible for AGM charging due to on/off function of current regulating relay. Motors that take long to start will drain too much and voltage drop sensed by the primitive regulator will excite generator for max current output and this is where the AGM suffers. But if engine is a fast starter, and AGM battery fully charged with a tender, then it's ok. Ideally you need an electronic regulator after the mechanical one Long story short, keep you AGM fully charged at all time as Marcel Backs recommends.

  7. Sorry I have to disagree (again LOL) Draft tube or Crankcase Ventilator Outlet Pipe as Chrysler calls it, is crucial.. Also length is a factor. It matches length of oil filler pipe for perfect airflow balance. Air in volume, velocity etc match outlet. When car is driven, vacuum at outlet adds to suction. To compensate to much suction, a small chamber is welded to outlet at engine. They obviously where experimenting with optimal crankcase ventilation to remove damaging unburned fuel vapor and moisture. Pre and pro war engines have different length tubes, with and without chambers.

  11. I'm gonna stick my head out and say, Lucas systems are not worse than any other systems. Looking and 1940s-70s, their untraditional way of using electrics, AC instead of DC and people's lack of understanding electrical flow has had many frustrated. Yes Lucas system is complicated, but not hopeless. Positive earth adds to the confusion. I'm fascinated that they where one of the pioneers of alternators, three wave AC chargers and semiconductors usage in vehicles. All modern car generators use this setup today. Their Zener diodes was a smart weight reduction (crude) method. (Crude like people using resistors as 12-6v reducer ?) Lucas's series wound generators differed from US and German shunt generators. These also has different regulators. I'm gonna stop now, I think I'm already in a line of fire LOL
  12. We have common dishwashing soap here called "Real". dishwashing soap will also do. Using carb cleaners and other acidic chemical formula beats the idea of these cleaners. Fluid in ultrasonic cleaners is just for dirt to be able to flow away when subject is bombarded and resonance occur. Water could be used but no one wants water left in carb, so alkaline fluids ( opposite of acidic solvents) will not affect carbs. If any soap is left in small channels after thoroughly blowing with compressed air is left, when mixed with fuel, they get neutralized.
  13. Not days, minutes. You cam literally see crap shaking off. Carb body becomes shinier and all the minute passage get cleansed. Alkaline Degreaser or plain soap water.
  14. You're welcome. Works also on fuel pumps etc. Will make plastic brake reservoir look like new. I used on almost everything. Doesn't work with cast iron. Just add your favorite alkaline degreaser and water

  16. There is also the possibility transmission relay contacts or solenoid intermittent power fault thus cutting off oil flow to piston. Could also be low oil pressure from pump. There is a plug for measurement. Over 40 PSI
  17. 9.6v is max charge voltage for a flat 8v battery, so 9v would be low. But since it's trying to charge a 6v battery, it's not working optimal. Also your generator is working overload. Only way to know if regulator is set correct, by charging an 8v battery.
  18. It will actually work either way, but sparks are stronger when connected as stated above
  19. Charging 9 volt on 6 volt is bad. You'll cook battery dry. Sealed battery will crack or explode with this voltage, better adjust regulator or get a correct one. 8 volt battery? Like a golf cart? 6 volts has worked for over 50 years, why shouldn't it now?
  20. There are other possibilities other than oil level I'll explain but first a question, do you experience the same situation with 1 and 2 ?
  21. Connect a vacuum meter. If mixture screw does not change idle vacuum, passage is blocked. Use ultrasonic cleaner.

  23. Interesting about needle bearing. Which bearing are we talking about?
