  1. Yes, he has the package shelf for a 48 DeSoto, but he doesn't say for what body style. According to my Parts Book, each body type had a different package shelf! And he has the kick panels for 46-48 Chrysler, but not DeSoto. He doesn't say if they are for the 6 or 8 Chryslers. Maybe the Chrysler and DeSoto had the same kick panels? I would need a Chrysler Parts Book to know for sure.
  2. yes, from Bryan's pics it looks like the kick panels and shelf tray are made from some kind of Pressed cardboard. I checked out Collector Auto Supply, but they don't seem to cater to antique cars.
  3. Thanks Bryan and Junkers, excellent pics of your beautiful interiors. You are lucky you don't have to pay an upholsterer to redo it! I thought that the back shelf wasn't pigskin or cloth. What do you think that material is? Some kind of cardboard or oil board? I found out the company in Long Beach that does custom headliners is ACME. They only sell to upholstery shops, so they are not retailers.
  4. Bryan, thanks for that pic of your interior. Dodge is very similar to DeSoto. Do you have picture of the package shelf under the rear window. What is it made of? I think the leatherette is a tan colored pig skin that goes on the bottoms of the door panels and on the seat frame. Some cars had the pigskin on the backs of the doors and the bottom part of the trunk panel also. It looks like they used seat broadcloth on part of your door panels? Here's a pic of the factory Parts Book of a front seat of a DeSoto Custom and the rear area from a business coupe like mine. I put a pic in from a 48 Chrysler Royal also because it was a seat fabric with a pinstripe that looks similar to mine. I was told there is a Long Beach Calif. headliner shop that sells customized headliner kits, but I can't find them on a Google search.
  5. I'm getting ready to have the interior of my 48 DeSoto Deluxe 3 window coupe reupholstered. Right now, it has an old circa 1970s upholstery job on it. My upholsterer needs some pics of how it should look. I have some pics of my seats, door panels and back panel. So if you have an original interior or an interior done correctly, I need your pics. Thanks, Marc.
  6. Tom, your Royal looks awesome! I'm having my 48 DeSoto Deluxe bus. coupe reupholstered soon. I was debating going with carpeting in front, even though my car came with mats instead like yours. I think you have convinced me to do what you did. Thanks.
  7. It's for anyone who knowswhat the factory color was of the manifolds.
  8. Are both the exhaust and intake manifolds silver, or is the exhaust manifold black? On most cars it just looks rust colored.
  9. Yes, that's why she's your ex-wife. Now you can work on your engine on the kithen table if you want.
  10. I'm getting to the point in my restoration where I'm beginning to think about upholstery for my 48 DeSoto bus. coupe. It needs new headliner, door panels, carpet, rubber mats, and wool broadcloth for the seats. I want to do as near an authentic interior as possible. I'm not really ready to go to an upholsterer yet, but I'm beginning to worry about the supplies running out for cars of my vintage. Maybe i should buy the materials now before I'm ready to hire an upholsterer? Does anyone know who has the best supplies? I'm now contacting SMS for samples. Marc.
  11. You X them out too and even report them.
  12. I love your excellent MoPar still life! Makes me wish I didn't sell my gold Master Tech standing on a piston some thirty years ago. I also have many of the MoPar film strips and kits, plus a Dukane projector to show them. Although the phonograph on the projector needs some work, so I play the records on my Califone school phonograph with 4 speeds. Even though the records are 33 1/3, they should be played with a 78 stylus that the Califone has if you flip it over. I have one or two Mr. Tech kits that include a small envelope of steel needles to play the records.
  13. Yes, and here's a link to that 1952-53 Chrysler filmstrip: https://mymopar.com/mtsc-1952-volume-5-12-windshield-and-rear-window-service/
  14. There is a good video of the restoration of a 41 Plymouth showing how to restore the vent wings. it starts at about 3:50 into the video.
  15. Come to think of it, I also live in a monsoon area. Southern California is known for its heavy rainfall. I think we had about 8" of rain last year! I like seeing your photos of your restorationl. Good work! Marc.
  16. I'm trying to guess where you live that has monsoons. Do you live in Asia somewhere?
  17. to help us, it would be better to give the dimensions of your clock opening on the dashboard. Better would be a picture of you dash also.
  18. Good video! Thanks! 54 Plymouth sedan for 7K and just 30 K miles!
  19. If you're not familiar with Keith's videos on Youtube, you should take a look. Lots of detailed instruction on how to work on flathead six engines. Also there's another guy who doesn't talk that shows you how to restore a 218 Plymouth six engine and how to remove it. Of course you first have to disconnect the linkages. Take lots of detailed pics before you do!!! Disconect the drive shaft, hand brake, speedo cable, exhaust pipe, radiator, etc. You take out the engine and transmission at the same time. Here's the video of how it is done:
  20. Removing the coil springs on my 48 DeSoto was very easy. You just need a good floor jack to relieve the pressure on the spring and it will just fall out. That is after removing the necessary nuts and bolts. Easy to install the new spring too. You don't need a spring compressor.
  21. Not mine, but some interesting pics of an S-11 DeSoto Suburban. dessubwebp dessub1webp
  22. I have that air cleaner that came off of a 1950 Dodge Wayfarer. The decal says Industrial Wire Cloth Co. It also fits my 48 DeSoto, but the 48 DeSoto came with a different air cleaner made by AC Spark Plug Co. From observations of old cars for the last 40 years, I believe those ribbed oil bath air cleaners made by Industrial Wire Cloth Co. were used on the 49-52 Plymouths and Wayfarer Dodges. The larger cars like Chrysler and DeSoto and the Dodge Coronets used that larger dome-shaped air cleaner. I had one on my 50 Chrysler, but I don't remember who made it.
  23. The shop manual actually has a lot on the three speed manual transmission, but it mainly focuses on how to rebuild one. The owner's manual show you the shift pattern. If someone messed up the shift linkage, good luck. There little information on that subject. Just check my posts on the linkage for my 48 DeSoto. You might get some info on your car by looking at the MoPar filmstrips that they showed to the dealer mechanics. https://mymopar.com/mtsc-1949-volume-2-6-transmission-fundamentals/
  24. Shouldn't you be asking these questions from the person you got the tank from? Unless they are just a middle man who just sells them and knows nothing further. It would be better to get the seller's answer rather than getting guesses from us.
  25. NAPA says these fit only 40-48 Plymouth and Dodge, so do they also fit 48 Chrysler and DeSoto?
