  1. Thank you for the information. Will post my experience just so the info is out there. Looks like I will be buying some rims tomorrow. Al
  2. Anyone know if a 15 x 6 rim with a rear Spacing of 3-5/8 inch will work on a 50 Plymouth? Tires are 215/70's R15 I would think so but I don't want to hit steering or anything else. I have disc brakes on the front and that looks like it will clear. Buying new rims and just want to make sure.
  3. LOL A New york times article with colon cancer, perpetual motion. More like hinting you may want to read the whole paper. New York times is a bit formal for that type of thing.
  4. Oil filters were an option back then. Good to see it being used again.
  5. All?? Not sure about that..
  6. I'm no engineer either but I know a good article when I see it. Which was why I referenced it.
  7. Some copper pipe wouldn't look bad. May be able to keep it low visibility and have it large enough to balance the carbs if needed.
  8. Well I see its the New York Times. If you read the other articles it also has. Polka dancers having less cancer and perpetual motion machines. I love the car that was modified for 40 mpg. "To cut wind resistance, a nose reminiscent of the Plymouth Superbird was fabricated from a large sheet of cardboard and duct-taped to the front of the car." So is it real?
  9. Hope it helped. The only thing I would add to the HAMB article is the way the shocks are mounted to the new support. It looks like they just threaded a bolt through the support. The attachment point IMHO should more rigid. Looks like they tightened the bolt against the support with only the rubber grommet on the shock for tension. Also looking at the bolt in the picture its not a tight fit in the hole and will flex under load. Just my thoughts.
  10. I don't think this is real. Looks like an elaborate April fools day joke. Only listed on car forums??? Anyone find a link say for a newspaper?
  11. I am running Ford F1 mounts with Monroe 555004 shocks. Your mileage may vary on length. I had to go to the shocks I posted after putting in new springs in front. The shock should ride in the middle of its travel. Basically between its compressed and extended length. Here is a chart for shock length. travel, etc. http://www.monroe.com/assets/downloads/english/08_MountingLengthSheet.pdf Also a pic of the F1 mount I have on mine. For a template try here. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=215548
  12. Probably cheaper too. I like it. Good tip.
  13. :rolleyes:They sell kits cut to cut them to length/diameter/circumference. What ever. This is for the o ring not the other direction this threads going. Besides there encite..
  14. Interesting the bidding started at $100 US the bidders bid it up. So I have to agree let sleeping dogs lie. No one forced anyone into anything. I try to go by: Caveat emptor I have read enough threads that degrade to the point of no returns I hope this one doesn't go that direction.
  15. Can't you find an O ring that would be a perfect fit? Granted probably cost more.
  16. I like the crow bar for window removal. Always handy for those delicate tasks.
  17. Not so sure about on the shelf but the part number is. NOS 17131 18 Washington's since we seem to be using presidents now. If you order tonight they should be there tomorrow in any case. Just reserve online if thats the way you want to go.
  18. Try here. http://www.monroe.com/assets/downloads/english/08_MountingLengthSheet.pdf
  19. Glad to see you posting. Been following your thread since you started on engine removal. Good stuff. Take care and congrtas. Al
  20. Hey Scott First thing to look at, Is it over heating? A thermometer in the radiator will give you an idea if your temp gauge is working right. You don't say if it is leaving a puddle of coolant on the ground. You mentioned steam off the hood. Is it a cold rainy day? Seeing steam is relative to the outside air temp. Was your drive in town and stop and go? The hood being hot. Is it more so than another car you may own? What temp thermostat do you have? If its 180 sounds about right. Not trying to nit pick but some things to consider. Just looking at what is going on at the time.
  21. You can take them a cheat sheet for all the zerks. I think its for a P-17 but should be close. 21 fittings if I counted right. http://www.dndrodshop.com/P17.pdf
  22. Have only heard 2nd hand information. The going advice seems to be fair for inside parts that don't see a lot of wear. Post your results if you give it a shot. I have a couple of gravel guards I was going to get priced. Not sure I want to know. Al
  23. Worst case of pink eye(s) I have ever seen.
  24. I think this is the best answer as far as a guaranteed fix. It won't hurt to try JB weld as it won't harm anything. Besides temporary fixes are only temporary unless it works. Read that bit of wisdom from one of the signatures here and LIKED it.
  25. Well so much for airport security. One would think it would set off a metal detector.
