  1. Just wondering James, what is the reason for converting to the powerflite? The M6 is pretty bulletproof. I average 3500 miles a year on my Coronet in all kinds of traffic conditions with no problems.
  2. Follow the directions in the service manual and you’ll have no problems. Here’s a tip. Heat them up in boiling water to soften. Stretching over the pin is the easy part. Lots of lube to get it through the housing. Good luck.
  3. I bought from Bernbaums. No issues. I had no problems installing mine. Much lube! Can’t emphasize that enough.
  4. I completely agree with Greg g. You can troubleshoot this .
  5. Idle should be between 450-500 rpms. This tranny doesn’t usually respond well to a 6-12 conversion. How many miles are on the car? This is a robust driveline but it can wear out. Regarding the 6-12 conversion search this forum. Someone with a fluid drive has probably done this and can walk you through the process. Good luck.
  6. If the polisher accidentally straightened the trim I would have him fix the mistake. I’m sure you paid good money for his work.
  7. Chrysler didn’t introduce the true 49’s until April of 49. Order parts for a 48 and you’ll be fine.
  8. There should be an oil cap on the back of the speedo. A couple of drops of 3 in 1 oil. Remove the cable from the speedo and the trans. The inner cable pulls out of the housing. Clean and lube with graphite. Should be good to go.
  9. There’s a journalist named Jon Robinson that uses a 50 DeSoto coupe as his daily driver. I believe it’s his only vehicle. It’s a shame he’s not active on this forum. He would be a treasure trove of information on how to use our cars in modern traffic.
  10. I believe the owners manual does recommend de-clutching at long stops. We are all guilty of babying our cars. We forget that they were once someone’s daily driver in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions. You should not have any problems with the fluid drive but a little prudence goes a long way.
  11. The fluid drive should hold up fine. Cars with the M6 were used as taxis back in the day. I’m hesitant to drive mine in heavy traffic also but I’m more concerned about engine overheating.
  12. My 52 Coronet runs between 190-200 all the time. Aluminum radiator and engine rebuild 3000 miles ago. Always seems too hot to me but no problems with overheating as of yet. Hope this helps.
  13. Not really a memory but I came home from the hospital in a 52 Coronet that became my first car in 1978. I currently have a 52 Coronet so life has come full circle for me.

  15. My 52 Coronet has a script on the drivers front fender that has Coronet on top and gyromatic below. The passenger side says fluid drive below. Is this correct? I had one of these in high school but that was a long time ago.
  16. Wish I could buy it but my wife would make me live in it! Your car is fairly rare. Dodge built far more regular 4- door sedans than town sedans. 7500 seems fair but I’d start a little higher. Just remember that these mopars aren’t as collectible as GM’s or fords so it may take longer to sell. There is a buyer for every car though. Good luck.
  17. I had my D24 done by the local NAPA. I did have to tell them what thickness was needed. You can find this in the parts book.
  18. 15 inch rims are 16 inch at the outer flange. I think the measurements are taken where the tire bead contacts. Coker Tire has a conversion chart on their website. That may help.
  19. 205/75R15 works well on those wheels. Ran tubeless radials on my D24 with no problems.
  20. Rhode Island Wiring and YNZ Wiring both offer complete harnesses. They look correct and have all the correct connectors.
  21. It’s really easy for the gasket to slip out of place. I’ve made some real messes in my engine compartment because of it. A little gasket shellac should hold it in place while installing.
  22. Looks good. Check underneath for any rust and take it for a drive. The price seems a bit high but I’m out of the loop on this stuff anymore. I’d certainly drive it!
  23. I can only speak to my experience. I drove my D24 for 12 years with radials on stock rims with no problems. A previous owner of my 52 Coronet replaced the rims with 15x7 police wheels. No matter how tight my hubcaps were installed they popped off frequently. I’m currently running the poverty caps that came with the rims. Not a great look. I’m going to check on some rims for sale that appear to be correct. I’ll switch back in a heartbeat.
  24. I’m 57 and my Coronet is 67. Lol. I learned to drive in a 52 Coronet in 1978( yes it was a real gem). I’m on my 2nd one for the last 6 years. I had a 49 D24 for 12 years before that. I definitely don’t fit the age profile for these cars but I’m pretty weird in general.
  25. The Coronet won best in class at the Highlands car cruise at Seven Springs. Of course it was the only one in its class but technically I still won. LOL! About a125 mile round trip or so. I’m really pleased with how well it performed. That’s the longest trip I’ve taken since the engine rebuild.
