  1. Work today, among other things. The post needed paint, the steering wheel splines groves were damaged, so . . . The grill bars will be same color as the car. I may add rhe chrome pieces thar frame the grill area, one long piece on the hoods lip and two small extensions on each end. The long piece is pristine including the attaching bolts. I have two of these pieces. The car is ready to drive, but these and other cosmetic items come first. Tedious, time consuming work.
  2. I’m about to do the same thing. If the piece is a bolt on, I would attach those, then try to form the piece to the car. Put the nut on wit a nice washer and draw it up a bolt at a time. No experience, just a suggestion. Good luck.
  3. Today will get a spray gun and needed gauges for the air compressor. Then shoot.
  4. 2nd coat of primer. Now let cure them sanding block and 800 grit. Am I on the correct plan?
  5. Well, I used it. Used it on my truck, three years ago,, the clear on my truck still solid. So good, bad, or indifferent I’m proceeding. Once primered will drive the car to a detailer for the body, then to a paint mixing business and have them give me the best they can do and instructions to paint. It won’t be what Casper, Plymouthy, and others can do but I’m not them.
  6. I hope this helps they also have a similar product called Prep and Prime. (PP) For obvious reasons I do not use that product. LOL
  7. It’s called prep and etch, to help the primer / paint adhere to the metal. Yes
  8. It will look different by evening. Lots of last minute prepping.
  9. To remove the king pins I had to drill out the lock pin. It is a tapered pin. Who sells these. The cat is drivable, doing safety and cosmetic items now. ,
  10. Da, I’m 81 and need a guide! Any suggestions?
  11. Two summers ago I bought a disassembled ‘63 Love Bug, with all parts boxed, parts of two disassembled VW engines and one solid pan for $80. All of this was in storage from 1975, so while dusty in excellent shape. I thought I would make some nice $$ on the scarce ‘63.. so while trying to sell or swap said items the interested buyer thought my price too high an pd commented rhetorically “I don’t know how much Monet you have in all this”! That stuck with me me so I queried, “What do I want to get from this inventory?” I concluded I wanted a solid running engine installed with the transaxle into my EMPI Sportster, help fixing the brakes and $500 cash.So I made him that offer and he accepted. For $80 I swapped for a rebuil engine and labor and cash an easy 2500 value. We both won. im going to do the same with my Suburban. As soon as legal, etc., I will drive it and slowly improve until I get the amount of $$ I need for a slight upgrade of Darlene kitchen and some extra cash. Someone will get a nice suburban which he can improve to his wallet and we will have what we want. To be continued!
  12. To clean up, repair, replace, and the drive a 60 year old vehicle is in the same camp, patina or paint!
  13. A friend and I will meet for lunch late this month and will invite others to join us. Kettleman City is crazy busy on weekends so it will be mid week. More later, just let anyone interested know early.

    My new 54

My grill in the 54 fenders on a 53 . All I did was replace the three pice bar with the single bar. Same holes, etc.
  22. I have a 218 and a 3:73 rear differential. On a 100 mile one way road trip with a friend who drove a 47 coupe with a small V8. Our mpg was the same, pump to pump. I personally do not see an advantage for aV8. JMHO.

    My new 54

53 vs 54. I too prefer the 54. They made some very subtle changes: different front fenders, hood and grill, different tail lights, different side grime, all to lengthen the appearance. These row years had short frames, thus small cars. It was a marketing mistake. Other mfgrs went larger and flashier. In my opinion 53 / 54 Plymouth’s are nerdy good cars with better mechanical items, especially in the front suspension and. steering .
  24. New MCBig day today. Brake issues resolved, so now new rear cylinders, rear drums turned needed only cleaning, new brake lines, new master cylinder, and front disc brakes from Rusty Hope. Front tires aligned, fuel line and new electrical fuel pump with an oil pressure safety switch so it will turn off in case of an accident. Tomorrow a final safety check with the car on the lift. Then start the engine and start the test drives. Mechanic charged me $35,, money well spent. Now only cosmetic issues remaining. Video on the street shortly Many thanks to each and all who in some way assisted me. Could not have got to this point alone. New Master cylinder pre final tubes.
