  1. Yup, 1 to 1.5 turns out seems to be the sweet spot.
  2. You probably know that the 251 is approx. 2" longer than the 218 and 230. You will have the move the radiator forward and probably take a chunk out of the cross member to clear the damper pully. I installed a 251 in my 52 Dodge 1/2 ton and that's what I had to do. Don Coatney here on the forum has a 251 installed in his P-15. Visit his photo bucket for some detailed photos.
  3. Ole Gussie is getting a transplanted 3.9 rear end from a 50 Plym to replace the original 4.37 ratio. A 10% reduction in rpm at any given speed ! I was surprised to see that the new rear end has a 5.5" wider track than the original so maybe I can keep up with my brothers Boxster on windy down hill roads ;~) Question.....I finally got the old rear end leveled up on the garage floor so I could measure the pinion angle and it shows 90 degrees to the spring perches. Is this possible ? Seems like the last time I swapped rear ends on my Pilot House the angle was around 3 degrees.
  4. The 38 had a floor shifter. Those appear to be column shifters.
  5. Hey, that's only one wife Tim......where's the other one ?
  6. I think the JB Weld will do the trick ! I do see some so rust in the female area. Hope that isn't an indication of the rest of the tank.
  7. Well, turns out my oil pan leak was actually coming from the flex line ,just above the leak , that runs to the oil gauge. My starter pedal had been rubbing on the line for years and finally wore a hole in it. OH well......the oil pan was pretty nasty with crud and silicon chunks from a previous install so it's nice and clean now.
  8. Where did you buy your parts casper50?
  9. She's a beauty !
  10. Those are on the rear bumper of my 38 Dodge coupe. http://smg.photobucket.com/user/olddodges1/library/38%20D8%20coupe%20CLYDE
  11. Like these. I like the look too. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v154/olddodges1/Vehicles%20I%20have%20owned/47Plym.jpg
  12. Don,I am also going to glue the gaskets to the pan and grease the block side in case my oil leak is a rear main and I have to remove the pan again. Crossed fingers. Tod or Don.....is there a torque spec for the pan bolts. The metal around my bolt holes was dented inward almost as much as the thickness of the side gaskets. I hammered them flat again.
  13. Mine are different then. The new long side gaskets extend over the top of the fat end gaskets like shown in the photo I posted.
  14. I meant gaskets 1 and 3 in the photo I posted. See how they extend over the top of gasket 4. Just curious and I know there is more than one way to skin a cat. I just don't want to have to redo this.
  15. My repair manual shows the long flat gaskets resting on top of the end gaskets which are suppose to be sticking up above the pan gasket between 1/8" to 1/4". Don, did you cut your pan gasket off at the ends ?
  16. I would play if it's ok to substitute Long Islands for the beer. That way if a dart hits my shin I won't feel it as much.
  17. So, just how does this game work ?
  18. I've had several of these joints rebuilt without any ill effects. The original guys were full of it.
  19. I felt ya Don for a while....... but now .....um....... Maybe that felt is there to keep dust away from the clutch and has nothing to do with my earl leak.....feel me ?
  20. How important is the clutch housing dust pan felt seal ? I'm trying to locate an oil leak at the back of my D24 engine and the felt on my dust pan is shredded.
  21. I use to use this '47 1/2 ton in my construction business and to haul a camper or small boat. It had a 230 with the stock 3 speed floor shifter,15" rims and a Ford 3.0 rear. I drove it on the freeway at 65 all day long. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v154/olddodges1/Vehicles%20I%20have%20owned/My4757RedFish.jpg
  22. Ditto to what Niel said.
  23. I have always used J.C.Taylor. I've never had a claim but my brother did once and they paid for all the repairs. I have 6 cars insured right now with values ranging from 5K to 15K with a total of 60K total value. I just paid my yearly premium which was $472.00 total for all the cars.
  24. Yes, but for both sides.
  25. Love the patina ! You gonna make a flat bed ?
