  1. Just an FYI. You will spend 2x the money, 10x the time and probably come out with a butchered car if you frame swap. People don't realize how much work it is. The most I would do is a front clip. For the cheapest/easiest route would be a disk brake kit on the stock front end.
  2. Pull the drums. My 49 had a wheel cylinder leak and dry backing plates.
  3. There isn't enough valve spring pressure in our flatheads to warrant zinc. It is really for OHV engines with high spring pressures. I only use oil with zinc in my OHV engines with FT cams. Waste of money in our flatheads.
  4. I know this was mentioned but I didn't see an answer. Did you check your heat riser? Possibly stuck heating the manifold? Scold me if I'm wrong and it's been answered
  5. What about drilling the rivets out and not bothering with the hub? I might have done that but mine came off with a little torch heat.
  6. Strange. My 49 it is in the rear. Sorry for the bad information / assumption.
  7. Follow the hydraulic brake line towards the rear axle and you will find it. No adjustment, just replace the switch or check for a poor connection.
  8. Intake type on the Hemi?
  9. My 49. 230 all stock
  10. Watching this one too. My 49 Wayfarer does not have a drivers lock
  11. EXCELLENT work as usual.
  12. Check out "50 Freak". He's on YouTube and Hamb, maybe even here. There are many more mostly on the Hamb but some here. In my opinion 3" block is already too much and I would not go to a 4". Scrub lines and wrapping on rear springs is multiplied many times with blocks. This comes from a person who lowers all his old cars. Poise makes a super slide spring with reversed eyes and a better ride that will start you at about 2" below stock (non sagging spring) height. Add a 2" block and you are about the safe limits of a leaf sprung car. Any more and go with a 4 link and bags.
  13. I never thought a long bell would fit without firewall surgery.
  14. Wow!!!! Wish I had your time and energy. Looks great and good for you for thinking out of the box
  15. The flywheel seems to be answered so on the the damper. My 49 didn't even come with a damper so I would leave it off. A worn or wrong damper will be far worse than none at all. I understand ma Mopar put them on some engines and not others. FWIW my 49 doesn't have an internal or external coolant bypass either FROM THE FACTORY and has suffered no ill effects??
  16. Maybe the grease in the trunion is hard as a rock. Since you have it out pull the tin covers off the ends, clean all the old stuff out and put new grease in the joints. I used cv joint grease on mine.
  17. Got a little more done today. Shortened the steering arms, put my new brakes together, put my new steering box and other goodies together. Feels good to start going through all those new parts that have been sitting for years.
  18. Well it's been a year or so, new career, 4 kids and another old mopar to drive around has kind of put the Plymouth on the back burner. I did lift the body back off the frame to finish weld everything, paint and assemble it. I work on it in the driveway by day and push it under the body at night. Wish I had a 2 car garage. Mocked up the new suspension and finished the front bumper brackets. Kind of goes in spirts
  19. Don't know what that coating was but now they come covered in a thin plastic. FWIW
  20. It's interesting watching all the purist clubs die off and the hot rod clubs grow. Hummmm...... Maybe they are taking notice. I have also been mistreated by the purist clubs so if they fizzle away it won't bother me a bit. Or maybe they will lower their noses a bit to survive.
  21. Put that pan back on and drive it....... I've let them sit longer than that.
  22. I put one on my fuel gauge only. It is said the guage doesn't know the difference and works on 6 or 12 volts. My clock doesn't know the difference either and has been working well for years now on 12 volts. I installed a later 12v heater motor but I used the 6v one on low for years with no issues. This was all on my 49. BTW the starter doesn't care either just don't grind on it too long. Don't forget the 12v coil and you are good. I would think the radio will be more unhappy about changing polarity than voltage.
  23. I am not sure on the actual Plym 3 speed but first gear is the lowest ratio on most transmissions. Even with the best compression it will bleed down, turn the engine until the next compression stroke comes up then that will bleed down............ That's why the car would move a little then stop and so on.
