  1. Your engine does look good Kirk. Often a person will get a good result if they follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Hi. Is that the coupe a fellow on the HAMB just sold in Cali? By it's body shape, it's a club coupe, which should have a back seat. If none, then it was removed by the previous owner. Looks as if the rear fenders have either been modified or it has 1942 Plymouth fenders on it. Regardless of any of that, it should provide you with some automotive amusement.
  3. Here's a set I have........you can see they don't come as far into the center of the wheel. I recently acquired this set.......they also don't come into the center as much as yours....but more than the chrome ones. They are in the original box.......but I haven't yet actually tried putting one on a wheel as my wheels are still in storage after the tornado. When I get the wheels home, I'll test the fit. The box says they are for Plymouth 49-53.
  4. Hello---welcome from Joplin, MO. You'll have a nifty and pretty rare car when you get done. There are usually some 42 parts on eBay..........here's a link: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3984.m570.l1311&_nkw=1942+plymouth&_sacat=10073&_from=R40 Although the 42s look a lot like the 46-48 models, very few things will interchange. That part under the front bumper is certainly unique. Here's a pic showing that feature, lifted off the net............. Is yours the one seat business or 2 seat club coupe?? At the top of this forum is a section containing reference material, some suppliers, and other helpful stuff......try to read thru that area to see what you can learn. If you need new gauges (gas, oil,tc) I've discovered you can use a 46-48 gauge and simply swap in the copper colored 42 face. So---have fun with your new ride.
  5. Antique Auto Supply 1225 Colorado Ln. Arlington, Texas 76015 Phone: 817-275-2381 Fax 775-234-9858 Email: antiqueautosupply@yahoo.com You might check with these folks.......he has several warehouses fulla stuff of all kinds. Don't know how well stocked he is on old Mopar, but probably worth a shot. Link to their website........http://www.antiqueautosupply.com/............
  6. That's not one of those setups of a big Dodge truck is it??
  7. You guys need to use those cell phones............
  8. So Bob K of the HAMB has been taking a road trip with his wife in their nice 52 Chevy convertible. Posting this in case anyone would like to follow their travels from WI up thru Washington State - a lot of it driven on Hwy 2. He said that as a result of this trip, his car has now been in all 48 lower states. There are some visits with other HAMBers and their shops in there too. I've met Bob, a retired insurance man, at the HAMB drags here in Joplin. Nice fellow. Posting a link to the thread in case anyone wants to look. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=740281
  9. Here's a copy of a post I made a while back..........man making new sending units. Was on ebay.....don't think he has a current ad. Might be able to find his business on the net. While looking on ebay today, I noticed an ad for a new reproduction stainless steel gas tank sending unit. Seller says it's for 1940-48 Dodge, Chrysler and Plymouth.....complete with float and gasket. I sent him a note via ebay and asked if he indeed is making these units - he replied "yes". His ad says he's located in Isanti, MN. He has a "buy it now" price of $99, with free shipping. Sounds high, but these haven't gotten any easier to find lately. I have a sender that was new a few years ago......but, if I needed one, I would grab this one. It has two wire connection screws......so I don't think it's for a Dodge, unless he has another one wire unit available as well. Here's a picture and link to his ad. I would contact him thru ebay with any questions. Seller name is tomsclassic. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT I have a new unit made by the Atwater Kent Company........looks like the original one. I think Atwater may be listed in the resources or similar info at the front of this forum.
  10. Some insurance companies have their "recommended" body shops who they feel do the best job, or give them the best price. However, many companies will allow you to choose a different shop. We have several larger shops here, but there is one smaller place north of town who seems to do good work for about half their price. Is there other hidden damage, or could that rear fender simply be replaced in lieu of hammer and dolly work? The good news is....any P15 fender will fit, off any model.
  11. Nice video. That guy is certainly co-ordinated.
  12. I think the aftermarket caps in that style come in both 14 and 15 inch.
  13. Personally, I like the 57 Dodge Lancer spinner caps, But I don't think they work on a stock 53 or 54 Plymouth rim with clips. Would require changing to probably 56 Dodge or Plym wheels.
  14. I know that different folks use various methods to deal with their photos. The best thing I've found is the online album PhotoBucket. There's also Snapfish, Flicker and others. Photobucket can be set to automatically re-size incoming pictures to a size that makes them usable on most forums. Then just transfer desired pix to include in a post. As I recall -- Bucket will give a person a certain amount of bandwidth free. If you continually delete and replace photos, you can probably use the freebie for a long time. I have exceeded that limit and now pay them about $75 a year for additional space and keep lots of pics there. The possible downside is if they ever have a major problem or decide to go out of business. You should really store valuable photos on your own computer as well, and even better--on a flash or thumb drive that won't be affected if your personal computer crashes.
  15. Hi Jim. Nice car. You were lucky to find one that was stored inside all those years. Welcome aboard. Is there any interesting story about why it was stored there, etc? I would like to make two suggestions, if you don't mind. The first is to use shorter lines of writing as a couple lines were so long they went into the next county. Kind of hard to read and keep scrolling across. And secondly, can you figure out a way to make your photos smaller?? Bob
  16. Likely some version of this.....the Jiffy Jet washer. That button mounts on the floorboard and you pump the system with your foot.
  17. Good luck with the moving Pete. I know it's no fun. We didn't have any big furniture left to move after the tornado, but have replaced things piece at a time into the new house. I still have a mini storage unit full of smaller stuff, including a bunch of my old car things and tools to bring home.....most of it will go into the new detached garage they just recently finished. Will have to get all new shelves to boot as the old ones all got messed up. Thinking I may use some metal frame units from Sam's Club that sell for about 60 bucks or so. You can either configure them as one tall shelf or taller/shorter side by side. Probably just as cheap as buying wood to build my own. Have one already---using in the storage unit.
  18. Hi Pete. Joseph sure has grown. So, where are you moving to? Or perhaps more grammatically correct==to where are you moving?
  19. Back in 1959 a MO state trooper who lived 3 or 4 blocks down the street from me had a pink and white 59 Dodge 2 door hardtop - unmarked. It had a plastic panel on the left side of the trunk lid (painted to match the lid) thru which the radar beam would shoot. He would park on the shoulder of the road with that beam aimed out the back and nab those who came upon him faster than the speed limit. Don't know what they did with retured patrol cars then.........
  20. Looks like a deal from Santa and the Good Fairy rolled into one.
  21. Welcome..........good story.
  22. I'm not much help regarding that battery.......I buy mine from a local place called Battery Warehouse......about $60 nowadays. Guess you don't have any battery specialty places near you?? I got one at Attwoods farm and home supply a while back.....but was not happy with it and returned it. You can also get them at TSC.....Tractor Supply Co stores.
  23. Nope.....me no make it either. Due to music gigs, and the car isn't done yet either. Was just going to go and look at cars, but just couldn't get there.
  24. What about our satellite map showing where members (who responded) live? Also, even if you have only liability coverage, many insurance co's will let you add their towing feature.....and it's usually not very expensive. They often pay tow to the "nearest place that can repair the car during business hours". It's difficult to say what each insuror will do. Mine with St Farm also pays for a service call for a tow company to come change a flat tire or to bring you 5 gal of gas. They would likely pay part of the tow to home, but maybe not all of it. Cost in our state for that covg is under $10 per year.
