I bought a pair of halogens a while back..........put them in, but there was a problem with the headlight wiring........so I removed them and went back to original type to make sure the halogens were not any part of the problem. Have not re-installed them yet. Someone earlier said I should use relays with those lilghts......you might want to check into that. Maybe someone will reiterate the reason for that.

Nice looking business coupe there.......you should have some good cruising with that. At first glance, I thought it was a Plymouth...........so it must be a Canadian Dodge. This has probably already been discussed, and I missed it.

Don't know of anyone re-making the bumpers. Check e-Bay, and Hemmings Motor News........as well as any old salvage yards you may have in your area. Also there are some big yards, such as Moore's and French Lake, that have a lot of the 40s cars. Shipping is the big thing...........they might go on Greyhound. Also, many used bumpers will likely need re-chroming. Here's the center section of the bumper (they have "Fluid Drive" embossed into them).........not in such good shape, but only $46 "buy it now" in Great Bend, KS. There oughta be some more complete and better out there. If you can't find anything, as a last resort you might check with the vendor "Bumper Boyz" as they sell rechromed bumpers of all sorts, thru Hemmings, and at larger swap meets. I said "last resort" as they seem to have gotten some bad ratings from some folks -- but I don't recall the specifics.

GTK sent a link to the Riser Adviser............

You might send a PM to Robin, who lives in the London area............he might have some suggestions as well.

Thanks for the pics..

Yep.............I think the grille and other trim are just right for the P15s. I really hate when guys want to remove all the trim.......they look worse, not better.
-
This picture was in an eBay ad for a Sept 1956 edition of Car Craft magazine. Shows how one person had customized a 48 Plym convertible......the most notable thing being the 46-48 Olds grille. Just tossing it out here for fun.

Good to know about that Robert. I think the last thing I bought from them was a front fender stainless trim piece......I think for the left side..........best I could tell it was aftermarket and quality not quite good as original. But it was close. I think they still advertise that piece.....they either have an ongoing source for making it, or they bought 10 million of them back when. lol

Some usable parts still left......... Looks like it was hit hard. Excellent looking car before the wreck.....................

I'd like to introduce Miss Caroline-this noob's 1942 Plymouth.

Hi. Nice looking car. It looks as if the ash tray and clock opening, as well as the glove box door, are the same as the 46-48 Plymouth. I think the trunk handle is also the same as a P15 (46-48). Otherwise, I don't think much else will interchange. Two things you should get soon as possible.........a repair manual and a parts manual. Probably are reprints available..........but sometimes you can find an original. They contain a wealth of information. There is a section on eBay for the 1942 Plymouth. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2060778.m570.l1311.R1.TR3.TRC0.A0.H1.X1942+plymouth.TRS0&_nkw=1942+plymouth&_sacat=0 The gauges (temp, oil, etc) are same as a P15......you just have to switch and use your copper colored background. -
Looks good from here. A virtually new 05 model. Cool.
-
The tag I have is in pretty good shape........still has the red on it......needs to be shined up. All 3 threaded studs are there. If anyone needs this........P M me. The price will be reasonable. And, shipping shouldn't be too bad either.
-
Hi Shel. I think you are right. Here's a pic I have of a 47 Chrysler Windsor owned by a local fellow. The two tags seem to have the same design.
-
Here's another roadster, similar to the one Don posted............made from two 46 Hudsons............done in my home town at the end of the 1940s.
-
Looks like they sort of patterned the overall look of the originally posted mystery car after a Jaguar roadster of the day.

Found this Chrysler New Yorker emblem at Hershey........was in with some other things I purchased. Not being a Chrysler expert, I don't know what year it goes on. Anyone have the answer??

..........and man, that was a lot of walking. That place is indeed huge. We got to as many areas as we could, but I don't think we got everywhere. My friend, Nils, and I decided we would like to go again next year. This was the first visit there for either of us. Met some folks including Tom Langdon, of Langdon Stovebolt Chevy fame; sheet metal man, The Plymouth Doctor; Ed Spiegel who has a batch of old Mopar parts; and the fellow who owns the molds and sells the reproduction rubber sill plates for P15s. (The ones seen on eBay). Also met several others who had a few assorted Mopar parts and were friendly and helpful. On Thursday, we met with Rich Hartung, "desoto1939" for lunch. Had a nice visit. See our picture on the regular forum page under "who's going to hershey?" The trip, including a side trip to a blues club and a partial driving tour of Gettysburg, was 2,316 miles. I found a few things........most of which I don't really need.......but, hey, I like to have spares. Prices were a bit high on some things......but, then again, I found a few items for a buck apiece. I bought one thing I'm not sure about..........it's an aluminum water distribution tube. The other ones I had (before the tornado) were steel. Would there be any problem by mixing the types of metal.......steel block, aluminum tube?? Got a new cowl vent rubber from Steele...... Here's the pile of goods...... Found another clear plastic bug deflector like the one carried off by the tornado......minus the propeller and mounting bracket, which I have on another one (gold color) purchased earlier. This one was only $2.

Looks great. I'm not sure if the 50 wagon had a roof rack available. Racks were more often found on the Chrysler Town and Country sedans and on limos of the late 40s and early 50s. Otherwise, you might be able to use a rack from some later 50s or a 60s wagon.

Hershey Fall Swap meet Oct 8 - 11 anyone going
BobT-47P15 replied to desoto1939's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Rich.........nice to meet you............and thanks for posting the picture..........it looks just like us. lol Yep......we found a few things (most of which I don't really need, but on some of it the price was right and I like to have spares). My friend, Nils, found a few things for his later model Chebby truck. We got back to Joplin Sunday night about 6 pm. Drove a total of 2,316 miles, including a partial driving tour of the battlefield at Gettysburg. I posted a further report on my Hershey doings over on the Off Topic page. -
They have now come out with a radial that looks like the bias plys used on the old cars. Here's a picture of one from the Universal tire catalog Coker and Diamondback also have versions. Look up their websites. Has anyone tried these yet?

That elephant is looking real good so far.

Arrived in Harrisburg, PA......about 14 miles from Hershey at about 5 pm today (Tues). Just over 1,000 miles from home. Met up tonite with an old friend of Nils who has been here once before.........will meet them for breakfast at 6:30 a.m.....then head over to the swap. No big deal for those who have been before........new deal for us. Oh yeah.......in true Hershey fashion it's raining pretty good right now (10:15 pm). Hopefully will stop by morning.
-
Well.....today(Mon) my friend Nils and I motored from Joplin, MO to Greenfield, IN (500 + miles). Tomorrow (Tues) we should make it the rest of the way to Harrisburg, where we will stay. On Wednesday we will commence to look around at the Hershey meet for various and sundry rare and exotic Plymouth parts - which rarity will likely be reflected in their pricing. I found ads from two old MoPar vendors giving their location, so will try to find them first. Will also try to visit the Coker and Diamondback tire folks to check out some wide white radials. My size of choice for a P15 is 215/75R-15 Also......hope to meet up with Rich Hartung, "desoto1939" for a visit. Maybe a side trip Wed or Thurs night to a Harrisburg blues club jam session (brought the harmonicas). And, last but not least - will try to do some sightseeing . Hmmmm......Looks like we gonna be pretty busy.

Hi guys. I just saw an ad on e-Bay for a water distribution tube that says it fits Plymouths from 1937 to 1954. My engine is a 1957 model. Wouldn't it have that exact same tube? Have I missed something?
