  1. must have been the same manner of repair work as the PO....while I have done tons of work on many cars....some of it rote, it is always best to consult the manual during the process on most repair actions...this could be a good lesson as to why
  2. stepped bores went away with floating shoes.....
  3. not to mention the Mopar you can walk into a store and walk out with repair parts if needed...I can really see the coin toss needed here....(being snarky...lol) to me those wishing to stray from stock points, I see no need to leave Mopar...
  4. If you place any faith in a factory repair manual this read may be for you...if however you do not buy into the idea the engineers of the times had anything on the ball disregard and draw your own conclusions. And yes lifted from the internet...and NO I have no clue the book but thinking it was Ford of the era using the Lockheed braking system.
  5. that wheel looks like circa 1970 +++/- ....these wheels were designed for bolt in center caps and wire baskets etc. Looks very similar to a set of 1972 I have in the barn.
  6. Hoovers suck if I am not mistaken....? I can see this on a modified car or one with questionable exchange air or water at the radiator and as a preventive measure on towing or long hauls on a steep grade. T hey have their uses and advantages.... My British van build incorporates a super slim electric fan as a pusher as the larger engine install really has not much room for the standard engine driven fan. Of course this is not stock, would never want it stock...as I could not be happy at 62 MPH at mega-revs
  7. I made similar argument back then on the full dish and the Cello official accessory.....I was quickly outvoted by the forum at large that the poverties did exist for the 54....I remark again.....I have never seen them in person...I based my argument then and now that the 54 did not have cap clips on the centers and there were no nubs pressed on the smooth ramp of the wheel to the open center....
  8. there is an old thread on here where the 54 poverty cap was discussed and actual pictures of the originals were shown...do a search on the forum, I really do not recall the entire thread...but I remember saying I had never seen a set of poverty's for the 54 but, they do exist...ever after all this time since the thread, still not seen a set in real life...only the full dish and the Cello wire baskets...I went for the Cello wires on my 54 Poverty caps with beauty rims is a very clean look and have these on a number of my cars
  9. what no picture of those monster lake bass.....serious/optimistic fisherman would have a gin pole rigged with block and tackle for loading the expected catch of the day...nice lighting...
  10. so you have proved just what I said, a few folks will follow it.....with the large number of members we have and the ones who are really active, given every active member views it, it is still a few of the total....now had I said nah, don't waste your time....then I would have been discouraging...
  11. Greg is referring to left and right hand rod threads that enter the turnbuckle that is the very means you set the track width..not on the the tapers of the knuckle I do recommend that you acquire a book...lots of info and safety notes within to protect you the part and car in general
  12. few folks on here will follow a build thread.....
  13. it is a D46 and as Greg says..it is a M-brook built on the full size frame of 119 inch. The other designation body codes A, B, C, E etc etc did not come into play until later. Even if it is a two door, you have a sedan body and not a coupe body....note the divided rear window...
  14. anyone going beyond the humor of a discarded jug and a vivid imagination is just trying to puff themselves up....?
  15. I believe the Suburban wagon continued though 1978......
  16. Merle..I have a 1941 Dodge D19 FD and it is 218....Dodge got the 230 in 1942 and Plymouth got the hand me down 218 although up from the 201 Plymouth sported about in 1941
  17. food for thought......or stir the pot.....whatever BUT, if Ma Mopar was to say built a throwback car and resurrect the the P15 Bz Cp do you for one second think it would have a flathead in it today.......drum brakes all around...a arm locked with the shock to render them basically ineffective....list can go on but you see the point. Technology marches to music many folks just refuse to dance to....
  18. see if there is a local club of vintage car buffs that may have a larger facility they rent as a club and if not...at least ask them what is local for a place that may be what you need for now to continue.
  19. a most recent repair on a late model Honda product has its manual set up in this fashion....while it is a good manual with the step by steps in the order it will keep backing itself up three or four sections...no just jump to change say coolant reservoir and go from there. With a paper version of the manual this is a piece of cake, with a digital copy.....aggravating jumping back and forth....yeah..never have I cared for a digital manual....but, it beats having no reference data at all and I am glad to be able to view it online.
  20. I believe what Byran is saying is AFTER first purchase there is a cost increase on subsequent orders....and that may be per MODEL car. It has been so long since ordering from them but yes the experience was similar when buying for a 62 Dodge and later for the other 62 Dodge I have here. Second order had a rate increase. While they can often be the only game in town and panels are fairly priced they as well as other suppliers used when buying sheet metal...tweaking is often required. Not saying the tweaks are major....just be sure their panel will suit the application before making the body cut.
  21. typically across the board in stainless 300/316 series has a strength rating of grade 5.....as stated above....just be sure where you use these fasteners...also stainless if over tightened has a tendency to gall....self weld in a manner of speaking....your call to change to stainless but be sure you are aware of the properties and working forces of these fasteners....not all stainless is created equal either....understand your different grades here also...stainless steel is just a generic term to identify metal with the x minimum chromium content...some stainless can also be magnetic....
  22. the FD was used in cars and trucks with the 218.
  23. The Wind in the Willows.....Mr. Toad was a speed addict of the first kind.....I think he is better represented today by no other than Mr. Bean.....in real life our boy Atkins has crashed his fair share of fast cars......If I had his money...I would probably have done no less...
  24. behind you all the way rat.....am I or am I not snickering... (now that last line was truly funny...) lol wrench like no one is looking...plan your build like no one cares, chances are they don't.....enjoy it all as it is your last day and hope that is really is not....I am totally honest in saying when at a show I will rarely look at a finished car but beat a path in and around them directly to the project/in progress builds...I want to see in my mind's eye what it would be...not what anyone may consider as correct.
  25. its more an oohs and ahs thing in my opinion....the odds of keeping up with a 150 scooter is still slim.....some dress out rather nicely...some are very much amateurish and performance and cosmetics both suffering greatly....but that is ok as each owner is free to do what he wishes and cost is usually not an issue.....it is not mine to wonder their decisions...whatever they think they want....go for it...behind you all the way...(sometimes being behind is better as they never see you snicker)
