  2. follow up with a wet test...
  3. Little British Car......
  4. was not aware the trucks were so much different from the car steering sector....one day I gotta get a truck book to look through.......lol
  5. the birds were delicious...pecan smoked.......there was just enough drippings for mums to make a tad of gravy, enter some biscuits and man, I ate too much. The birds were dressed without their wings, the legs did not dry out either and I chose not to wrap these in bacon on my first try. For a first go with a small bird, I will say, I will do this again. Neighbor enjoyed his meal, he said he would send over another large batch of birds for my freezer.
  6. as the gentleman that gave me the quail had earlier plans for supper yesterday, I did not smoke the birds until this afternoon....I forgot to get the pics of both pans and only thought to snap the shot after I combined them all in one pan. But here they are...hit the target temp right on the 2 hours mark......mums is preparing the side dishes to go with these birds now.....grandpa knows what's for supper tonight.....!
  7. this forum is for earlier cars though very diversified on other years....you may well be ahead to address the forward look forum, good change if it has been done you can find guidance over there...not running you off, just pointing you to the better forum for a quicker answer.
  8. as you stated, larger sized battery cables. do a voltage drop test also....check the current draw on the starter for possible armature drag due to worn rear busing....a bit f a problem in these three areas combined will drive a nail in most all coffins....will rob the system of current for the ignition evident by the ready start with out the starters use....what is the compression readings and the state of tune, these will also add to any of the prementioned items...good valid reading and you will no longer be guessing at what it may or may not be...while you still may have issues due to low compression and what not, you can rule out the electrical
  9. pitman arm shaft protrudes from the bottom....it is the splined shaft....seal should be pressed in...
  10. electronics solder can be corrosive but ever so lightly....that which is marked RMA is Rosin, mildly activated. However if you wipe good with alcohol and clean up the surface....your odds at corrosion is very slight. Also they are reducing and or eliminating lead content in solder. The content is high in tin, for our use little concern here....but if you have ever had the pleasure to view a circuit card loaded with microprocessors and memory chips galore literally shorted by tin whiskers....amazing how this stuff will grow metal hair.....got a pot load of circuit cards sent to me from a well known R&D lab to troubleshoot and repair as all of a sudden nothing was working for them....amazingly after cleaning the boards of the whiskers...all was well with the world....I conformal coated the cards to prevent this...as they were R&D they did not coat and thus the oxidation issues.
  11. first off am sitting in line beside a later model Mustang....owner has some identity issues apparently...had what looked like a mopar decal but could not get close enough to make it out...but as I went past him the Firebird Phoenix decal on the hood was most obvious.....wowsers....about the only thing I thought was correct was the 1/25 scale down spoiler glued to the deck lid. later I am cruising toward the wrecking yard to go on walkabout, I am about 62MPH and coming toward me was a fast moving car.....as it went by me and with my windows down, my ears got a jet wash like you read about...Challenger moving like a BOH I would place him well over the 120MPH...not much at the yard.....but I only cruised the one side as that was were the LBC was last spotted by myself. spring is almost here....
  12. good save on the shaft Ed, evident you took your time here...
  13. have your cat positioned behind the car so they can catch the mice you blow out.......
  14. my favorite and go to charger is also a Schumacher and not long back after many years of service it failed in the rectifier itself....lord only knows where I got them but for some 30 years I have sit on about seven 1/2 wave rectifiers heat sink mounted...that were exactly what was in my charger....changed that out and my charger is again back online. I am not so fond of the modern charger with the feedback and sensor circuits....with all due respect I know a 6 volt from a 12 volt battery. These new unit must often be 'tricked' into powering up the charger. A needless step in my opinion.
  15. wait a minute.....I count 8 terminals on one and 6 n the other.......LOL.....just picking on ya....cost of stuff is off the wall.....I still buy these items at the 'years ago prices' but the source is often flea market, yard sale and estate sales.....get a number of useful boxes and bags of hardware at cost effective prices from these sources. Oh sure, no guarantee you can get a terminal board at just any yard sale, but if you mess with x items in the course of your tinkering...you buy ahead...
  16. I am thinking of wrapping the legs in bacon, protection against drying out quickly/burning...will do on the reply back....we do normally grill the quail and cornish hens are a favorite go to for a slightly larger grilled bird.
  17. I bought a Master Forge long back...not a large smoker but suits my requirements. It is also a gas model, I like smoke flavored meats but I do not like using charcoal. Gas, light it, walk away.....check my water level if it will be a bit in the smoker. My favorite wood is pecan and with some 40 pecan trees on the place, I have plenty on hand. I not long back tried smoking my first salmon....now that is good eating. Its about 24 hours prepping the meat for smoking but worth it....definitely a planned meal unless you just smoking it for snacks.
  18. my last digital I bought was specific for automotive with dwell and tachometer features.....yeah still a few not swapped to electronic and probably will never be swapped...my neighbor had this brand and I assisted him with his vehicles using his and found it a nice item to have...so I got one for Christmas....
  19. well, my neighbor is a hunting guide and tonight he carried over 17 quail he dressed out, some shoot for sport and give him the birds.....I am going to smoke some of these and return a portion of the cooked birds back to him.....first time smoking a small bird....
  20. ah the Simpson and the Triplett....I have used each....and until ATE took over were still my favorite over the Fluke...maybe it was a 'fluke' but the batch we got in new fell like flies off a bug whacker....though in later years they seems fine units. I have a Fluke dual trace auto scope meter here.....not sure if I have even used it except to randomly plug it in and test it out. Ac, Battery pack and 12 volt plug in to your car cigar lighter...
  21. I have many multimeters of low medium and higher price....the HF meters were free and I have them also all over the place...for quick general go no go checks they are very much a valid tool and if you back over it....well....lost a meter but no real money...
  22. if my uprights idled at 18000 RPM, yeah, I could see a bit more concern here...
  23. dang, I saw the power surge as soon as that light came on.....
  24. club coupe....does not look butchered or missing parts...this body style sorta grows on you over time...
