  1. I believe you are refering to the highbeam indicator. There should be a red jewel above the lightbulb. I can't say what bulb is in there as I have never had mine apart, but I would guess it would be the same as the other dash board lamps.
  2. Before Lilly. Yavonne was often seen in the company of Sophia Loren, and Gina Lollobrigida.
  3. Dad had one like this, the Dodge version. Was in the Wayfarer trim level, longer wheelbase than the Plymouth and had the bustle back along with the fastback roofline. He was a punch press setup guy for a couple local industries. I remember a few ot these and the Plymouth being around, not real high numbers but enough to be noticed. http://www.chooseyouritem.com/classics/photos/27500/27768.jpg
  4. Norm, I am hoping that lots of pictures will be taken at your get together. Even if the faces are put with forum handles, for those that can't attend it would be nice to meet the gang.
  5. Sheesh!!!!! Started a Bush thread and ended up with a Hillary bashing thread. She actually has done some good things for the tired old Empire State. And As far as slick Willie went.....Balanced Budget or surplus, Most Reservists at home, Lies not leading to deaths of soldiers and civilians. Office a little stained, and tarnished, but........
  6. Put some reference marks at least on the shaft and diffy connection so you can put it back on in the same position.
  7. Welcome. Good to have a Kiwi aboard. Interesting car. I saw one at a show about 3 years ago, might have a couple of pictures of it, will post them if I can find them. Have you got pics you can post of yours??? Was it made here and exported or manufactured in Australia? Right hand steer of left hand?? Here is on in Russia I believe, look familiar???
  8. Looks like the bumper was pushed in. If I recall they had a system that collapsed on sufficient contact and then telescoped against some resistance. Once in that position it stayed there til repaired. If there is indeed a "G" on the side it could be the remains of a "GS" emblem, which was for Gran Sport, probably designating an engine, suspension, interior, and instrument upgrade package. The 455 and tranny would indeed be a keeper if it is in good shape. Not a fan of Boatail Rivs but they do have there place in the Grand Scheme of things.
  9. Here is one a little later, not a fastback but a 2dr hardtop, with the straight 8 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/51-Pontiac-Cheiftan-Catalina-Super-Duty-NR_W0QQitemZ270076341054QQihZ017QQcategoryZ6418QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Heard that these Poncho Straight 8's were notorious for breaking tops of pistons off. Could probably be solved with some late model slugs.
  10. I'd get John Burke to do the negotiations for you, then you won't pay more than 300 bucks. Lots of times if the seller just wants to get rid of a piece of juk clutteiring up their garage or yard, you can get em fairly cheap. Now that you have put a rare appilation on the thing, you have raised the value in your mind. Three windows in general aren't that rare. 49 was the first year Plymouth switched to that body style, quite a few were mad in 50. go to the magazine store and get an Old Cars Price guide, and a Hemmings looks for similar cars for sale and look at the condition guide. If it is a running survivor (an original car that has not been restored, renewed or rebuilt) it may be worth more in that all except maintenence parts are original to the car. The other factor is how much you can afford. But start low and see how the negotiations go, Is anyone else interested inthe car???? How eager is the seller to get it gone. Lots of things to consider beside the actual value of the car. But the price guide and hemmings will give you an idea. Also go to ebay and check out the plymouth section for completed deals on similar vehicles. There are two on now, here is one at 2500. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1950-Plymouth-Coupe-3-window-57-000-original-miles_W0QQitemZ260072260620QQihZ016QQcategoryZ6387QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  11. has anyone acually purchased any equipment from phillips in the past year??? does the company exist and manufacture goods??
  12. But I am gonna post the text from a recently seen bumper sticker that tickled me; 01-20-09 Bush's Last Day
  13. The adjustment I was speaking of is actually the collar and lock nut on the rod to the throwout fork. In the exploded view they are numbered 6 24 1 and 6 24 3. Loosen the lock nut, turn the collar counter clockwise to affect the adjustment then tighten the lock nut to retain it.
  14. But cows heat from both ends or so I'm told...............and the solid exhaust retains heat and puts it out at a fairly controlled rate. So I guess the short answer is if ya got a two car garage, park one outside and put a couple holsteins, guernseys, brown swiss, or if you don't want the trouble of milking them angus or herfords. in the other stall. As an added benifit, I understand cow urine is an excellent rust buster. Wonder what the BTU rating is for the different bovine breeds. Does BTU stand for Bovine Thermal Units?????????
  15. My vote would be face only a mother could love ugly. but hey it runs and drives.
  16. Here is something for all you thermoplastic casting guys out there. Find a decent Spit Fire head and make a mold of the logo and the lightning bolts. Cast them in a resin which would hold up to the heat of the head and sell them as a kit with some epoxy. Then everybody could have a Spitfire head, course it might drive the cost of the real ones down, but on the other hand think about how the judges at the Plymouth club meets would be scratching their heads wondering how somebody got a 25 inch head on their P or D series engine block.........
  17. not that tree, but I do believe it isthe same truck.
  18. Hey Don Welcome to the board. General questions are always welcomed, and the positive ground thing does cause a lot of confusion for folks used to 12 V negative systems. The p15 d24 forum is for discussion regarding 46 through 48 plymouths and dodges in particular and most other mopar flathead 6 powered cars for the 30's to 59. The Pilot house section is for the truck guyd but a lot a mechanicals are shared amoung the cars and trucks so there is a lot of cross talk. This section the Tech archives is/was intended to be a repository of technical advice, howto's. photo documentation of processes and procedures. So look over the rest of the forum stuff, and check out the main page of the site which has a lot of information regarding thec cars and their drivetrains, and other mechanical systems. Again welcome to the forum, and loke others you should find the information hear a great tool to further enjoyment of you fine old car.
  19. Is that just down the road from the fellow who does the car art sculptures near Hunter Mountain. I saw one and have a couple of pics I took of it last year some where in the Ashokan reservoir neck of the woods. My sister in law lives in High Falls, and when we visit, I do some knocking about in the hills and valleys looking for stuff. If I recall there was a small tree growing in the ditrus accumulated inthe dump box.
  20. I wonder if some heat absorbing mass mounted on the wall would give it a little more boost effect after the sun goes down. Something like those cement things you put under wood stoves, painted black and attached to the wall within the chamber would absorb heat during the day and give it off as the temp inthe chambe went down after the sun goes down.
  21. How about replacing the lug bolts with studs and then leave the drum loose ala most modern rear drums, then let the wheel lug nut combo clamp and center the drum on the hub. just take the hub and have the threads drilled out and press in some nice new regular thread studs. this seems to work well on rear wheels, and the drums just flloat when the lugs are off.
  22. Well the best Panther P!$$ you can get that is pretty much universally available is PB Blaster, there is one called KROIL that is better than most penetrants by about 5 fold. Usually sold to gunsmiths. If you can't find either go to you local MOPAR dealership parts department and buy a can of MOPAR brand penetrating oil. This stuff is about 3 times better than PB Blaster. It has some graphite in it and really loosens stuff up well. If these fail and the flame wrench is you last resort, go slowly and carefully, especially where there might be more than one layer of sheet metal. It doesn't take much heat to begin to warp body panels, even grinders and cut of wheels will cause enough heat to cause problems with sheet metal.
  23. As was noted in a movie, "I'll have what she's having!"
  24. So!!!!!! Does this help you visualize the importance of proper timing??????
  25. How come Superman could stop bullets with his chest, but always ducked when someone threw a gun at him? Just think how much deeper the ocean would be if sponges didn't live there. War doesn't determine who's right, just who's left.
