  1. My canister has a copper washer between the top of the lid and the bolt to seal that spot .
  2. I was surprised that the infants pushed along in their strollers are just gauking like crazy at my truck . They must be boys .
  3. The carb says carter ball & ball .
  4. Also if your city is large enough , there will have a business that specializes in rubber products . Look in the yellow pages .
  5. Acouple of weeks ago I was reading some of the literature on the ebay or paypal sight and found ; The seller is responsible for getting the merchandise to the buyer in good condition . Going by that information , it isn't the buyer at all who should be considering buying insurance , but the seller only . After all , when the insurance claim is paid it goes to the seller , who of course should make the refund to the buyer .
  6. That is pretty good . Is the store part of a national chain ? if so , which one ?
  7. More point filing info ; This was taken from Motor Auto Engines and Electrical Systems printed in 1976 " Prestolite is strongly against filing their contact points because the cuttingsurface of the file produces high spots on the contact surfaces , which means concentration of current and heat in extremely small areas . Delco-Remy recommends that points that are blackened or slightly burned or pitted should be cleaned with a special point dressing stone or a clean point file . In dressing the points , remove the high spots only as it is not necessary to remove all traces of build-up or pit . "
  8. On filing points ; The real old points were solid platinum and could be filed with success ( don't ask me the dates ) the newer points were only coated and so a filed set of more modern points would soon be pitted . That was the way that I learned it , correct me if I am wrong .
  9. I bought some rubber pads from argentena that looked good , no cracks , but they disintegrated right away .
  10. The light chain mentioned might be alright but don't use heavy chain. One guy had his chain tie itself into a knot then it was a big headache getting the chain out again .
  11. I have a couple more vises and a compression guage too on the bay .
  12. Yes , someone got mine off the toyota pickup , it just unbolted . I now have 8 feet of chain and 6 padlocks on the new one . They caught a local scrap dealer buying the stolen ones in a sting .
  13. My wife drives a 2007 Honda CRV . It has the 2.4 engine and 5 speed automatic and get about 30 mpg on the highway . It is fairly large and it is fairly snappy too .
  14. Elmer , I have adjusted some horns that had a half-round cover over the points . As Merle said , clean the points , also see if the points are adjustable . When using two horns , use a relay . When just testing the horn , a more direct hook up to the battery will often blow the horn when an indirect connection won't . I see you are using a t5 transmisson , what are you using for an emergency brake ? Does yor last name begin with a S ?
  15. It looks like wood in the picture , did you feel it ? I have seen several of those in steel , perhaps it has been painted to look like wood to match the car .
  16. Charlie , Here is one place to try for the emblem although they are very expensive . ; www.emblemagic.com
  17. daddy023 , If you don't find any leaks in the obvious areas , let your engine warm up and open your radiator cap to look for bubbles . Bubbles will indicate air getting into the system , possibly combustion gasses from a blown head gasket . Then a compression check is needed . The Motors manual says that if a head gasket has blown that you should change all of your coolant as it becomes acidic from the exhaust gasses , so don't just drain the coolant down low enough to do the job but flush it out too . The Motors manual doesn't mention water contaminating the oil but if I thought that water was in my oil I sure would change it .
  18. The intake valve ports go to the intake manifold .
  19. Are your plugs too long ? Compare one with an Autolite 306 .
  20. Um , how would water get in the oil ? Not from a blown head gasket .
  21. One other method to consider , have the old radio converted to 12 volt negative ground with modern internals and FM too . That should be nice and costly .
  22. How about cutting another slot in the shaft with a disk in a dremmel ? ( with the manifold on the car )
  23. I had tried various sealers on a leaky manifold bolt including teflon tape , permatex , pipe joint compound and the thing that finally sealed it up was anti-sieze compound . I got the idea from another forum member who sealed his with this method .
  24. rotten03 , If you are going with that way of thinking , why don't you use one of those rubberish/plastic type of plugs that snap in . Like on a more modern rear end such as a dakota . They look like they wouldn't hold up but they do the job just fine . I think that I have seen them in the HELP section of the parts stores or a trip to the salvage yard might be in order and get a good measure on the hole while there .
