  1. rotten03 , If you are going with that way of thinking , why don't you use one of those rubberish/plastic type of plugs that snap in . Like on a more modern rear end such as a dakota . They look like they wouldn't hold up but they do the job just fine . I think that I have seen them in the HELP section of the parts stores or a trip to the salvage yard might be in order and get a good measure on the hole while there .
  2. Yes , the small hole is there to compensate with air as the fluid level moves . Make sure that your fluid level is not too high , it should be down a little bit to help keep the fluid from splashing out .
  3. I bought a set of cobalt bits from Harbor Freight a couple of years ago and they are great . This set was made in Russia .
  4. Those pumps have been selling under several brand names . Auto Zone has been selling them . I have gone through several and the best one lasted for a year . I am now using the more expensive gear driven pump from Fifth Avenue ( 785-632-3450 ) was $ 90 plus $7 for shipping . On the gear driven pump the instructions say that if the pump is acting up to shoot WD40 into it while the pump is running , mine startied stalling about 2 minutes after initial starting so I used that method and all is well again . I have 2 filters in the line before the gas gets to the pump . The electric pumps in modern cars are not so problematic , I wonder why ?
  5. beyert99 , If you were to drive your truck with the original 4.1 and then drive it with the 3.9 that you are considering , you will notice an improvement but it would be slight . I know , as I went that route with my 1941 1/2 ton . To make things worse , your 4 speed has an extremely low 1 st gear . I put in a 1989 Dakota rear end in my truck with 2.94 gears and am very happy with the results and my tranny is a 3 speed . The Dakota rear end might not fit your truck though as the years are different .
  6. Jim , I see in your picture that you are missing the inspection cover on the rear of your generator . You don't want to spill any oil in there . A cover would be easy to make with a scrap of sheet steel , or someone should have a spare.
  7. You might also take a real close look at the hose , a hose that has been tightened down so tight on a rough fitting probably now has a rough surface too , especially if if isn't a new hose .
  8. If the pits are real deep how about J B Weld ? Clean it well first and sand it after it dries .
  9. I saw a pair of large american made vises at the flea market today . Any flea markets in your area ?
  10. I used one of these on my flathead . My engine was rebuilt 2 years ago and brass freeze plugs were installed with J B Weld and the rebuilder said that things were pretty rusty . So when one failed I used the Dorman 568-010 product and am happy with the results . I had used one prevously on another vehicle too .
  11. For information on a great freeze plug , size 1 5/8 " , Dorman part number 568-010 , made from a combination of brass , copper , and steel , go to http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/cooling/cool_105a.htm
  12. In Bernbaums catolog # 32 .... Oil Pressure Relief Valve Spring Package , their part number L-425 is $ 3.50 . The picture doesn't show the plunger , only the spring and gasket . phone 1-617-244-1118 or it probably shows on their website . My catolog is old so prices may be higher .
  13. It could also be leaking from around the sending unit .
  14. moparbud , Let us know which state you are in , as it varies from state to state .
  15. When swiching parts on a mopar rear end I ended up with 2 fill holes and 1 drain hole . So I can see how someone might end up with no fill holes . P .S . My 2 fill holes were at slightly different levels .
  16. 1157 is the number for a common 12 volt bulb . So if you have a 12 volt system you are good to go .
  17. Welding a washer to the drive shaft was the method that was used to balance my drive shaft too . Mine is OK .
  18. Run another wire to a good ground for a fast test .
  19. I made a note for myself on tail light bulbs a few years ago about the brightness of tail light bulbs . The information probably came from this forum . " The bulbs from Taiwan are dim and the bulbs from Mexico are bright ." I don't know of this will be the same in dash bulbs .
  20. One way to avoid future pitting is to have your old cylinders relined with either brass or stainless and put in a kit . This method would probably be a little more expensive than new wheel cylinders .
  21. NatesSedan , When you convert to 12 volt , you put a reducer on the hot wire going to your gas gauge to reduce that to 6 volt , the wire(s) that are on your sender come directly from your gauge so you are covered there . Use your existing sender or a new identical replacement .
  22. Others have said that the Champion spark plugs are no good , now I have joined that club too . I put in a set of Champion 592 (rj12) and the engine didn't run well . I switched to Autolite 306 and all was smooth .
  23. Before you attempt to adjust anything , have someone turn your steering wheel back and forth where it is slack while you are looking at all of the steering components underneath . Look and see if you can see where the slack is comming from .
