  1. Where I live there is a shop that specializes in this type of work . Perhaps there is a place near where you live .
  2. MAC auto parts for the early Fords also sells a door hinge pin remover .
  3. I was able to find a connector that was correct at a large hardware store .
  4. Is there a wrecking yard in your area that you can go in and look around ?
  5. Use the clear one from the hardware store . Use the small squeeze tube , sometimes called aquarium sealer . It doesn't have to be warmed . It comes in different brands , very common .
  6. I think that freeze plug is 3/4 inch and is not as easy to find as the others .
  7. I lost a couple of the small dog dish hubcaps on the road . I read on a hub cap site to use clear silicone adhesive ( as mentioned ) and wipe or trim off the excess . I don't think that you need to glue it all of the way around though and tight clips too of course .
  8. Wheel bolt pattern ? 5 on 4 1/2 . = 5 lug bolts on a circle that is 4 1/2 inches in diameter measured in a circle around the centers of the studs or bolts .
  9. I don't know what kind of car you have but it sounds like the box isn't secured to the frame . It also sounds like the clamp that holds the column to the dashboard isn't tight enough .
  10. Your 12 volt bulbs won't " hurt " anything , they just will not be bright enough . Use 1154 ( 6 volt ) bulbs to replace the 1157 bulbs , they have the same base and are also double filament .
  11. My 1939 engine had the rope seal and when the machine shop rebuilt it , they put in a neoprene seal . The guy said that some machining was necessary for the swap .
  12. That broken fastener looks like a bolt that holds the flywheel on to the crankshaft on some models . I have also seen bolts like that holding a cover on a differential . And Don said to have the flywheel ground if it has hot spots .
  13. I have two defective Autolite distributor caps . The problems are with the carbon terminal on the inside top center of the caps . These are new old stock caps . The terminals should have a light spring action . One cap has only an empty hole there and the other has a terminal that doesn't spring down . My question is , how are these center terminals held in place ? Is the top of the spring that is behind the carbon tip just wedged in place ?
  14. My local shop that did this setup for me was able do do the reaming with one needle bearing and one bushing . I brought in the parts and didn't see how the work was done though . The shop was one that specialized in front end work and not a machine shop . Perhaps call around in your area . I know that you want to do the work yourself but if you have one bushing reamed it might not be too expensive .
  15. I have seen some posts on old mopars , possibly Desotos that came with roller bearings on their king pins . My old truck has roller bearings on the bottom of one of the king pins where a bushing was replaced in the past . The metal must have been too wallowed out for a new bushing .
  16. My oil bath air cleaner had horse hair as filter material in the very top and it was sealed in there with sheet metal that was perforated with holes . All of the air first went through the horse hair and there was no way to check what dirt had accumulated up there over the years . I tore out the sheet metal covering and the horse hair and put in a paper filter , without the oil down below .
  17. If you want to set the head on straight the first time and not have to slide it around to get the holes lined up , screw in a couple of studs to serve as line up posts . Then unscrew the studs and put the bolts in place .
  18. I was born and raised in Superior . Moved to California 30 + years ago because of the weather . They have lots of bars in Superior .
  19. I guess that you put in the same plugs that you removed and not some new ones that are too long . The head could have been shaved some in the past too . I saw a used head on ebay yesterday . Vintage Power Wagons sells new heads at a reasonable price .
  20. John , Here is what I do . I bought a wrench at the flea market for a buck and carry it under the seat . It is always there as it isn't part of my regular set .
  21. Your luck might be best if you can speak with the manager .
  22. Did you buy it locally ? If it was me , even though it has been a few years , I would bring it to the store and explain the situation . You have nothing to loose .
  23. Chance , I admire your mechanical experience . You were having problems and others tried to help . We can learn from your solutions .
