  1. Where I live , Auto Zone gives a $5 store credit for an old battery . If you don't happen to need a new battery you can just get rid of the old one .
  2. Also if the pedal / arm isn't sloppy loose , the arm might be bent to the side . If it is bent just put it in the vise and straighten it .
  3. I have a different opinion on those threads . The threads are probably a tapered pipe thread and I would seal them with teflon tape .
  4. Here is another pace that might have one , used . He has the 1939 - 1947 parts but I don't know if he has one that fits 1938 . And if he has it will he sell it and ship it ? Brian's Salvage , 2580 Green Island Rd . , American Canyon , Ca . phone 707-642-5408

  13. Not all points came with the spring that is mentioned . There are different models from different companies .
  14. There is a wire in your distributor that moves every time that you use the throttle . The wire is attached to a plate . If the wire is touching metal where it shouldn't , then your engine will cut out when you use the throttle . Lots of times the insulation gets worn off or the wire could be broken inside of the insulation . The wire is made of very fine strands because it has to flex a lot .
  15. You can search for the UTUBE video of the speedo disk repair . The disks are sold on ebay for low $ and they come with a video on doing the repair . Although I have not done it , you use two opposing tools like dinner forks to pry off the remaining part of the broken needle .
  16. Paul , Are you saying that the end of one of your valve stems is broken off ?
  17. The first thing I would try is to tighten the fitting a little . If that doesn't work , I would try some sealer like Permatex on the mating surfaces . When the parts were new , no sealer was required . But the parts are not new anymore . You will need to drain the tank before using sealer .
  18. It looks like a brand new car .
  19. Perhaps someone slide that rubber spacer in place to lift the body a bit .
  20. Your distributor cap must fit snug and it should feel like it drops into place correctly . Time to purchase another cap using your distributor model number .
  21. "Trying to get an idea of where to start. It idles great now but the timing is too far advanced. Don't want to drive it until I get it dialed in. The vacuum now reads 17 -19 range. Any ideas? " So are you saying that everything is fine now or that the timing is too far advanced causing it to run bad at higher rpm's ? If everything is good ... take it for a drive .
  22. This is mine , ABS plugs purchased at a swap meet with a hole punched in them for the grease fitting .
  23. Another common problem is having the spark plug wires one position off .
  24. Make the gaskets and sell them if there is a market .
  25. " How do I check for compression into the cooling system ? " With the engine running , look into the radiator for air bubbles . Or do a compression check for a leaky head gasket .
