  1. If you go to LED I would suggest that you change out the generator to a 6volt Alternator. Also assuming that you still have 6volt positive ground so you would need to have a 6volt positive ground aftermarket alternator and you will also need to have to purchase the moutning bracket. Look on ebay to get a price. Rich Hartung
  2. Brakes are out of adjustment. Need to do a minor brake adjustment to each wheel. Too much travel or space to the brake shoe to the drum. Rich Hartung
  3. Bob, It was pleasure meeting with you and you friend that came along for the experience. Sorry to hear about his passing. Yes it is a unique experience. I have had the pleasure of being about a 2 hr ride from Hershey so it is easy for me to get there. I know a lot of people cannot make the trip but everyone needs to put it on their bucket list. I will try to take some pictures this year and post on the site. Take care and hope for a great 2020 and end of 2019. Rich HArtung

  6. Lwebb: send me a PM on your question, Rich Hartung
  7. looked in my Hollander book do you have the 2 dr touring sedan, or 4 dr sedan or the 4d touring sedan.I need to know this to let youknow which other car trucks will fit. Desoto1939@aol.com rich hartung
  8. Yes they sell the paint and also all of the tools. They sell a do it yourself kit. You will need the specific grain plate and the rubber roller to transfer the grain to your dash. You can use any rattle can spray paint that is close to your base coat. Then you roll the grain onto the dah. Let it dry. Then spray a clear coat on top of the grain. Then you use the regular wood stain that you can get at home depot and then wipe this on the dash. One coat might get the dark color of a contrast that you want. If not then let it dry then spray another clear coat. If you want a depper color then wipe on another coating let it dry and then clear coat again. Some people use a high shine clear coat and some people like the stain clear coat. I have been told that chrylser used more of a satin finish but I am not an expert. I have the home version of the grain it kit and it is a simple process. Just experiment. remember that graining is not a perfect job. As wood grain when wood is pieced together the grains do not always match up. That is the buety of grining it just haS TO LOOK LIKE IS WAS REAL WOOD. Call me and I will explain the entire process to you. The grain it guy did a presentation at the AACA annual convention with his home owners kits. He asked if anyone one would like to try and I steped up. After graing a piece of trim that he gave me he asked if I had ever done this before and I stated NO. I was able to duplicate what he had just done and he asked if I would go to Florida with him to work in his shop. Also more to this story. Rich Hartung Cell 484-431-8157 Home 610-630-9188
  9. contact the company called grain-it. They have the base colors and proper plates to do the home version of wood graining. I have done it and it is very simple process. The kit is not cheap but cheaper that having it done by a professional at approx. 2500 for a dash is and maybe more. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  10. I just purchased on ebay a set of autolite 306 sparkplugs for 25 with fress shipping and they came from Andy Bernbuam and all 6 had the chrome base. 4 in pne box and 2 is individual boes. Look under 1935 - 1954 Chrysler desoto sparkplugs. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  11. or someone used windex to make it soooooo clear that you can not even know its visible. Rich Hartung
  12. I have used Rhode Island wiring and they have made modifications as per my request. Here is another fact. They had done a 39 Desoto wire harness and had the wires taped. I showed them and original wiring harness from my 39 desoto that had the loom with blue strikers in the loom covering. They then changed the covering to the correct style witht he braded loom and the blue strikers. The wire that they use is modern wire with plastic covering and then the proper cloth colored covering is then pulled over the plastic wiring. This gives a better wire since the plastic cover prevents oil and water from getting to the inner wire. Good product and great product control. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  13. my 39 desoto has all right hand threaded bolts and they did not use left handed threaded bolt or nuts in 39. so therefore black drums. Rich Hartung
  14. black on the drums. I used regular spray paint from a rattle can and mine have been good for 30+ years on 39 Desoto. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  15. The anchor bolt or otherwise known as the eccentric pin yes does have a metal retainer with a felt washer insde the retainer. The fel would not het any grease but only some light oil and clean oil not used motor oil. Also no grease on the end of the push rod where it goes into the piston and rubber cup. You might put some old lubreplate on the end of the pushrod where it hits the back of the brake shoe also some lubraplate where the metal of the brake show might rub against the backing plate limit the use of grease so it does not get on the brake linings. Rich HArtung desoto1939@aol.com
  16. So I would think that since the ing swith is not fully turned on then the electrical circuit is not complete and permitting the electrcail current to flow from the coil to the dizzy to complete the flow to make the spark plugs fires and start the car. I also havea foot starter lever and the engine canbe cranked over without the key turned on. and the car willnot fire up. Rich Hartung
  17. the 1935-39 cluster gear is different than the 1940 and above so you will need the specific cluster gear for your tans. I know this CG is not really found out in the swap meets but they are available. I sent you a lisiting of the various catalogs that I have scanned as per your request. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  18. I had the clutch and pressure plate replaced on my 39 Desoto and also motor mounts at the trans and front and still had some vibrations. We had to replace the original vibration dampener which was part of the lower crank pully. After replacing the dampener then the vibrations went away. Just another thought to your issue. Also when we put on some rear motor mount they were red in color and we determined that they were also too hard so when with all black rubber ones. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  19. Sam HAve you contacted Steele rubber products. They make new motor mount with fresh rubber and should be softer. Yes the NOS mounts can harder up over the years so if they are around a cheap price might be too hard to use in a car or truck. Always ask for new rubber. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  20. I would want to know the person that rebuilt the carb so in case if there is any issues you could go directly to him to get the carb fixed. Also stated totally rebuilt so I am assuming that all brass bushing were replaced and made to fit properly without any slop. The carb was soaked and also put in an electroci bath cleaner solution was the venture tube replaced and all internal parts replaced. Very high cost for a rebuild not knowing all of the info on the carb. buyer beware Rich Hartung
  21. Hemibear: This is rich Hartung I sent you a PM about the cluster gear. Desoto1939@aol.com
  22. It all depends on how each state handle antique cars and the registration. In PA you can use a year of manufacture plate on your antique. But you first must purchase the regular Antique plate and then pay an additional $75 to register the Year of Manufacture Plate. Also note that most states used a two plate system and then went to a single plate system. So if you have a year of Manufacture plate and not both plates then someone else might have already registered their car with the other plate that matches yours. If this happens then you can not use your plate. Also you would be reguired to have the regular antique plate in the truck of your car. In Pa the regular antique plate is good for life and you own the plate so the cost of paying extra for a YOM plate is not worth the extra money for me. I have a YOM plate on the front bumper and the regular antique plate on the rear of the car and this works just fine for me. The front plate informs people at car shows what year the car was manufactured and it did not cost me anything else except the cost for the plate. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com
  23. I do not understand how the wiring would make any difference the current is completed when the brake fluid pushes up the metal contact and makes the circuit complete. Rich Hartung
  24. have you replaced the rubber flexible fuel line that connects to the FP and the metal line that is along the lower right side of the radiator. The line might be so old that the rubber in the line has collapsed and is blocking the flow of the fuel into the pump and then into the carb. Also are you getting any gas into the fuel bowl in the carb. Is the float adjusted correctly also might be a stuck needle in the float area. Rich Hartung
  25. has anyone ever stated why the switch willnot work with Dot 5 fluid. I have been using Dot5 for over 32 years and have only replaced one brake light switch. I have used NOS switches and not new ones so I donot understand why they should fail. Possibly bad manufacturing process. The dot 5 is silicone and should not corrode the contacts.
