  1. Are you sure that you have power to the low side and the high side of the plastic plug for the lights. But a test light on the low beam connector on the plastic connector and see if you test light indicates a complete connection. Do the same with the high beams. Also test the same at the junction block for high and low beam. Might also be that you have two bard headlights. When you depress the floor high/low beam switch do you have power to the light junction box for the high and low depending on how the floor switch is pressed? If you have high and low power continuity then the issue would be from the junction block and the individual wire that is leading to the plastic socket for the light bulb. Also check that the contacts are clean and secure and the wires are tight also check the ground wire in the plastic socket you might have lost the ground connection. Rich Hartung
  2. The first question is did you have a glass bowl on your old FP that you took off the car? If you did then the same glass bowl and gasket should work on the New Airtex FP. The original FP was a 588 and this is the same pump as the 588 but just renumbered by airtex. Give that a try and let us know if it fits. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  3. are the pictures that youhave posted of the carb after the carb has been rebuilt with the repair kit and then put on the car to test the carb? There is a lot of reidue on the body of the carb. I would suggest that the carb be taken apart and completely recleaned in side and out. Did you put the two small ball bearings into the correct holes. ALOT OF PEOPLE BUT THE WRONG BB AND THEN THIS CAUSE THE CARB NOT TO WORK CORRECTLY. To get the correct repait kit you need to know what model Carter Ball & Ball carb you have. On the top of the carb body near where the fuel line attaches to the carb on the flange clean this area real well there will be about 4 letters of number stamped into the flange. You need to know these number and or letter so that you get the correct kits and gaskets. If you then know the number then you can do a search on Ebay and you also might find a kit. But first reclean this carb and then inspect the entire unit. Rich Hartung
  4. you are welcome. This is why I collect the older literature when I find it at the swap meets and also Hershey. I found the whole lot of 1939 Desoto accessory Sheets and service bulletins at last years Hershey event. o you never know what you are going to find and the information is so valuable. Rich Hartung

  6. here is page 3. Hope this is useful information. Also Wilalrd was a battery that Chrysler used for some of their cars. i know a willard was used inmy 39 Desoto. MoPar Batteries p 3.docx
  7. Here are the factory accessoroes sheets regarding the original MoPar Batteries. There are three pages Rich Hartung MoPar Batteries p 1.docx MoPar Batteries p 2.docx
  8. I have a factory accessories sheet that shows in color what the MoPar Batteries looked like and will post later tonight. This was taken froma 1939 Factory Bulletins catalogs. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

Jarva69. It it is using the standard bushing I have the special Miller factory tool that is used to install the pilot bushing and then the tool also burnishes the bushing to the correct size. Contact me if you want to borrow the tool. I also have two of these same tools. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aolo.com
  10. Had a good friend that has a 35 desoto airflow. He was a Chrysler technician. He was taking off the manifold and had the car up on a bottle jack and by accident hit the bottle jack with his foot and the car came down on his arm and cut very deeply into his arm down to the tension. He had to have skin grafting and was lucky that his arm was able to be repaired. He still can use is arm but now he is even more careful. He said to me that he knew he should of had the car on jack stands and with a floor jack under the car but as we get older we get less careful when working on the older cars. So take heed on this gentlemans experience and play safe at all times when working on our old cars and trucks. Rich Hartung
  11. I went last to Chryslers at carlise last year with a friend and as the above posted stated this is mostly a muscle car show. Not that many old vintage cars and also not much in the old car parts. save your money and time and then spend it on ebay at leaset you can see the parts before buying. Hershey is a better event you the older cars and truck. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  12. I guess the best information for allmember is that when you are taking an original part out of your truck or car and it is a mopar part just keep them or it in a used box. Sometime they can be rebuilt and this goes for most parts. If you have the original then these are better than the new Asian junk that is being reproed. Just my 25cents worth of information. Rich Hartung
  13. did you save the original WC? You can have the original resleaved. rich hartung
  14. the book is on Epay for the very low low price of $138.00. Hope he gets the asking price. Rich Hartung
  15. remember that you are not permitted to have people sitting in the rear truckbed area when driving on the road, you will get a major fine from the police. Rich Hartung
  16. the item you are looking for is a rotoloc kit that is specific for your car. the roto-lokkit repair kits were made for the Mopar vehicles. The kits work for Chryler, Dodge Des from 1939-48 Ply 1940-48. There is a an L-1 kit that fits on the left front and right rear and an L2- that fits the right front left rear door. Here is some info from my Window regulator catalog and the instruction sheet from one of my R-1 kits. Click on the PDF link and the instruction sheet is displayed on how to replace just the roto mechanism. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com roto-lock.pdf
  17. I would thnk that you would be having a very tight front seat area. Since the boys are now over ten i would think that they are not little kids and then would need some room with the two adults in the fron seat also. Just my 2 cents on this topic. Rich Hartung
  18. I would also say that two adults only if you have a floor shift and if a column shift then possibly 3 adults. If the othe passengers are small children then two children no matter what type of shift because of their size and not getting in the way of the shifter setup. Rich Hartung
  19. On my 39 De Soto engine I just used a high temperature silver paint and it has been holding up very well over the years. I have had this paint on for almost 30 years. Have done some minor touch ups but overall it has held up very well. ANy good quality high temp silver paint will work. Remember that these Chrysler engines were to be a functional engine and not the pretty looking Ford Engines that only deliver 85+ HP with their V8's. Our flathead 25 inch block had 92 hp right out of the assembly line. So just paint it to your color that you like and then paint the other components black, they do not have to be a high gloss lacquer over done high sheen like on the trailor queens and the AACA National winner cars. If it is a driver than make it nice and have fun with the car. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  20. I just used a red pin striping paint for my 1939 Desoto. Pin Striping paint seems to flow better. Just a thought. Rich Hartung
  21. hope you got the the person that hit your car to understand the cost of getting replacement parts and that their insurance company is not trying to total the car becasue it does not have any real blue book value. ALso do you have your car insured with a collector car insurance carrier such as Taylot, Grundy Congdon and Skelly. Make sure that you have also contacted them if the car was hit by another driver, best to keep them in the loop. Rich Hartung
  22. Just dis a search on Ebay/ The two on the bottom look like the example that someone is sell a r&l stone guard for a 50 Plymouth. The far right one is also listed as a 49 Plymouth on Ebay. Not sure if the posting is correct but that might help. When trying to identify a part without a number is do a generice search on Ebay and you might find the part listed for sale, this sometimes helps. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  23. Ed I would think the ID inside diameter is more important because you need the exact size to fit both end of the radiator and also the housing. Rich Hartung
  24. Maybe the fast idle linkage was used when the car came equipt with the sisson automatic choke that was onthe top of the manifold. Just a guess on my part Rich Hartung
  25. The old one is an AC588 fuel pump and was used on the dodge engines that does not have the connection for the vacuum wiper motor. Do you have a separate line that connects to the vacuum line for the wiper. Rich Hartung
