  1. Probably have to pull a permit to do all that, then the tax assessor would get involved and the state alcohol commission would wonder what you were doing, etc and so forth. lol
  2. this is local to me, not mine though. If anyone is serious bout it I could look at it.
  3. Near as I can figure, the switch is used to tell the cruise control circuit that the brakes have been applied. The circuit is powered all the time. The switch starts leaking internally causing a short, one that doesn't pop a fuse. Eventually, the short heats up enough to ignite the brake fluid causing the fire. Once it starts it has the contents of the master cylinder to use as fuel until it starts anything in the area to burn. The fix is a new switch with an inline fuse. This is what my coworker had already had done when his went up in smoke.
  4. Exactly, which is why I hesitated to say use them in that thread you mentioned. You know someone isn't going to read the label, get the wrong stuff and lay blame elsewhere. GL-1 not a problem. As for GL-5 being better, well my trans lived 70 years with GL-1, guess it may not be as good as GL-5, but it's good enough and then some, imo. Either one if fine, but read the label lol.
  5. What disturbed me is that you don't have a service manual. The function of that plug is discussed in it.
  6. Solder it closed and drill a .030" hole in it.
  7. My 51, non-OD trans, has a backup light switch.
  8. I don't know, that's why I said I think it will work, have to test it first
  9. A good bearing shop can do that, try an ag supplier.
  10. online cross reference http://www.kakapart.com/search/defaultsearch/2B-1869 Maybe of someone has the OEM Chrysler number for the front seal it can be crossed.
  11. It looks like any other Grant three bolt adapter. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/GRT-4310
  12. Yes, search for KeithB's posting on this very subject
  13. There is a reason the steering wheel is big, leverage. You need it with manual steering. Or bigger guns, lol. I can one hand my steering but my son cannot, yet. That said, I have a grant adapter I think will work, but haven't tried it yet. I am not looking for a smaller wheel, just one that isn't all cracked or stupid expensive.
  14. Allow me to point out that the stock carb does not have throttle bushings, that is a fix to take care of a worn out carb.
  15. Regarding three ring pistons, for the 230 anyway. Do they exist? I have only seen 4 ring ones. I'd be happy to ditch a ring.
  16. I was referring to the exterior of the fins packed full of fine west Texas dust,
  17. I've seen coils labeled 6 volt POS so I'm going to assume it does make a difference and that you should wire the positive terminal to the points Although I will admit the coil in my Cambridge was wired backwards when I bought it and it ran.
  18. That is one thing I like about my 51. There is no clutch safety switch or anything like that it lets me be just as stupid as I want to be. Lol
  19. The paint made 10 20 30 years ago is not the same paint you're buying today. Lots of changes that happened.
  20. Interesting, same weekend as Chryslers at Carlyle. Wonder if that affected attendance? I'd rather look at these cars anyway.
  21. There most definitely is continuity between the coil output and the + and - terminals. They share the ground connection internal to the coil. http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/ignition/ig108.htm Try changing the ohms range to 20k or so
  22. One thing I learned long ago is that if you have one freeze plug Rican odds are the restaurant their way. So I just end up yanking the engine and replacing them all in which case access to do it approved way is easy if I was on the side of the road I might try a temp fix
  23. I have a set I haven't installed them yet. I'm about 300 miles from home so I can't go look at them but I don't think they are rubber at all. When I get home later today and if I remember I'll go pull them out and look
  24. I've seen where someone has used an air hammer to do the trick, That someone was not me. Might try a set of DORMAN 568010 https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1261394&pt=5332&jsn=11
  25. I bought a 230 to build for my Plymouth and it had stuck valves. I tried all the combinations people have mentioned and the only thing that really worked with a darn was brake fluid. Didn't take me 10 minutes to free up valves that I had spent weeks trying to free up using other fluids.
