  1. Go up on your setting until you get a reading
  2. On my 37 starter, I had to replace the brushes and turn the commutator. There are 4 brushes in there. I find it suspect that it will turn with no load but when load is applied it just clicks. Are you setting 6vdc at the contacts and then at the starter? if so then the starter would be in question If you are not getting 6vdc at the output of the contacts but do get it at the input side, the Starter sol is in question If you are not getting your 6vdc at the starter but are getting it at the contacts then the cable is in question Have you tried to bypass the sol and run your 6vdc directly to the starter?
  3. I can't help but think this is something simple
  4. Have you tried cleaning the contacts of your sol with an emery cloth?
  5. what engages the pinion gear to the flywheel. My 37 Plymouth is accomplished by my foot. Or is there a sol on your starter as in modern cars? If you are just pushing a button to turn the engine that would indicate a sol on the starter if it will not start but just click I would look at that sol not the one in the engine compartment.
  6. Just wondering when your starter was rebuilt, was it rewound? If so was it wound for 12vdc instead of 6vdc?
  7. It's been a long time sitting. Glad to see the old girl running again. Well Done!
  8. WD 40 was never meant to be a lubricant or penetrating oil. Just a water disbursement. However, as Sniper said it works real nice on guns which I used on my Savage 1921 pump shotgun.
  9. What a bummer! I've got a spare now but its the broken one I just replaced. Hopefully you'll be able to find another one a lot easier than me here in England. I'm really sorry to hear that. :o(
  10. Did you check for continuity on your connection?
  11. I am running 12 volts in my 37 Plymouth but the heater fan motor was 6vdc. I could not get a 12 vdc motor in the UK to replace it and I was thinking of using these resisters. The problem I had, there was no place to safely mount them under the dash. I ended up using a step down transformer. These also generate heat and need to be placed in an open area as you did. Also being mounted on a large piece of metal will help dissipate the heat. The last thing you want is to set wiring on fire.

  13. In my days as a commercial printing engineer I was working on an IR drying unit. Unbeknownst to me the engineer before me installed a safety device incorrectly. The long and the short of it. 2000v went in my Left hand and out my Right knee. This was in England, I am an American. I told the guys there, "I't a good thing this happened to me. Otherwise it would have killed you brits.
  14. I have just taken the trunk hinges off on my 37 Plym. Thy are marked 'LEEF R.H'. and 'LEEF L.H'. From what I have heard from others on various sites the 37, 38, & 39 hinges are all the same. It then looks like the L.H. 742855 hinge is the one I am looking for.
  15. Thanks Ed, We have established the part numbers but now need to see which one is left & right. I'm from Minnesota, Edina how much snow do you have? Temps here will be 44deg F today
  16. Stupid me R.H = 742854 L.H = 742855 What do you expect when its 5:30 am here
  17. I've checked a few photos online and it looks like the 742884 is R.H. and 742885 is L.H. I may have to wait until we have some daylight and remove mine from the car to make sure. Thanks Keith
  18. Hmm, I'll have to do some digging. Do you have a parts book?
  19. i believe it will say L H Butt LH Leaf
  20. The problem I have is retirement and living on a pension. At the end of the money there is still some of the month left. £200 pounds is a lot.
  21. Yes I believe they are.
  22. On my 37 Plymouth the LH trunk hinge is broken, a common fault. My RH is fine and looks good so to spend $200+ for a pair is completely out of my humble retirement budget. Does anyone have one as a spare.
  23. The problem with grease is unless it gets into the pivot joint you will not be able to use oil for any lubrication afterwards. Also 'White Lithium Grease' has a tendency of drying out and crusting up. I have literally seen it so bad that I had to use a chisel to remove it.
  24. I use to build Trickle Impregnator machines for the electric motor manufacturing industries. We would have to heat the armatures and stators and apply a polyester resin on the windings and then maintain a 250deg temp. We had fire extinguishers on these machines. We used pipe dope on the threads It was always said if you don't want to take it apart use pipe dope. Otherwise use tape. Pipe dope does get hard after a while.
