OK, now that I am back on road with the record machine. I have noticed something very irratating. The car has developed a squeak. When I get in or out I hear this squeaking and it's driving me mad. Somethng like a month ago I addressed this problem and greased the front end. The sound is back and I think it's coming from the rear. What should I do? I think I used some penetrating oil and sprayed it on the springs, maybe I need something that will last longer:cool: any thoughts anyone have this problem? I guess if the car is running right what's the big woop right:(

Rodney I am going through the same thing right now, it is coming from the right front, either a fitting needs grease, or the shock mount is squeaking or something.

I did this to myself, I have been washing with my pressure wahser a lot under the car, the front end, backing plates, etc.

My greasegun is not working, so I am going to go buy another, hopefully I will eliminate this totally annoying, embarassing noise from the car.

This Saturday, I am taking the car to a small local Show and Shine, was given a personal invite from the Lilypad Cruisers of Petersfiled Mb. Club President on the highway this evening..........Fred

if its the rubber bushings squeeking here is an old trick.

mix some Dawn dish soap and water and pour on the rubber bushings.

this will lubricate them which is a big problem here in the desert.

I have done this on control arm bushings as any squeek or rattle just drives me insane.

hope this helps

hmm, Rodney, we are not getting younger so are you sure the car is causing the squeaking?

You mention that you hear it when you are getting in and out of the car...

Also, please be carefull how you write things down, the other day one of the wifes read along and could not help laughing....

Your statement:

"

may be the start of a new series of laughs !

Rodney being a prewar car do you have grease fittings on the rear spring shackles?

Rodney:

I had a 74 maverick and you could hear it squeaking a mile down the road, but when it rained it was so quiet. My guess is a bushing of somekind, maybe A-Frame.

Just my penny worth.

I got under the rear and greased it like there was no tomorrow:rolleyes: Then I took you all's advice about the joy dishwashing soap. after that I took the penetrating oil and soaked the area very well. I than jacked up the front and did the upper and lower arm bushings. If it queeks now I am going to do the ultimate. TURN THE RADIO UP ASLOAD AS I CAN. These small things are driving me crazy. I need a vacation.....start driving the Studebaker:o

Norm's coupe I bet you have a flat spot in those tires. I used to get that from any car I got from down the country until I got up to the ligh in the town. It would stop by than.

I know what to do now when there is a sound I don't like, buy a bigger speaker:D

now I know why these young people have all this noise coming from their cars. The motor must be making a heck of a racket:D

I did a grease job on my 47s front end, still squeakin, what else should I do, it's coming from the front end somewhere. I retightened the shocks. Besides greasing all of the zerks, should I spray penetraing oil all over the springs, control arms etc.....PS I do not have a radio for my 47, so I can't turn it up to deaden the sound squeak.............Fred

ever heard of a portable battery operated radio:) turn it up. I don't think you can get rid of the noises these cars have it's part of their make up, those cats in the 40's did not care nor could they hear remember they were coming back from a world war, they probally did not even hear it:) boom, boom plus they had their mind on other thangs in a car, the passenger seat and who was over there:p

Greg, because I have a 1951 Dodge front suspension, there is currently no Anti-swaybars, plan to mount the one from the parts car, but have not done so yet.........Fred

Hmmm isn't brake fluid hygroscopic??? Doesn't water in contact with steel in the presence of air cause corrosion? Wouldn't corrosion cause friction which might add to squeeking? I thought general purpose grease was the factory spec for lubricating front suspension and steering wear points.

I've heard of using brake fluid for the rubber bushings, like sway bars. When I worked at gas stations years ago we would keep a squirt bottle of Atlas RuGlyde handy for squeaky bushings. It's the lube you used for mounting and dismounting tires.
