Ripped off by a Forum member

Not me either. I collect vintage radios and has something like this happen on an eBay purchase. I didn't even get the radio. I later did received a letter of appology. The guy had run into a family problem and did not have the money, which I had sent, for shipping. Guess what... I later received this box in the mail and in it were the radio as well as a money order for the price of purchase and shipping. The guy felt so bad and wanted to make it right. I now have a good feeling about him. I bet he feels better too. It always feels bad to be dishonset and nothing beats the feeling of making a wrong right. So, whoever it was, why not make it right and return the money? That's all I wanted to say. Except, sorry that you were taken Robin. I know that somehow someway the guys here will always make things better. If I had a radio to give I'll send one to you. Unfortunately, I don't.

Was not me either..I have sold a few parts here but have bought more from member than I have sold...I have also arranged to by parts from members here only later to have them not follow through and also never answer my inquiries...I am not out any money like Robins and I guess the items are his property till money changes hands so he is still free to do with as he wishes..but not to answer someones e-mail..not cool at all...

But I feel your pain. I have had many dealings with forum members here and happy to say it has always been more than perfect. but I had my bad dealings before with other forums. . .

Hate to hear what happened so far Robin and hope you are both able to work things out. If not then it would be nice to know who to not to buy from in the future, but, as many who have been here a long time know I will not say how the person should be exposed on the forum. Been down that road and it wasn't pretty.

Hey Guys,

I look at all the answers to my thread and I see why I love this place.

THANK YOU for all your messages and kind offers.

I don't think it's right to name the culprit publicly but let's just say that he has less than 100 posts and no information on his member profile (perhaps I should have looked at that first).

I am really pleased to see messages suggesting that maybe he is ill or out of contact... It's great that so many of you look for the good side in people.

However, I know he's in communication because he recently (and presumably in error) included me on a circular email to his 'friends'.

I replied immediately, but still no answer.

Looks like I'll just have to write this one off to experience.

Life goes on.

I have my health and a happy family. Anything else is a bonus.

Robin hopefully someone of the radio guys can answer this question for me. I believe the 800 radio you have is the prewar version of the 802. Am I understanding that yours works but the face doesn't correctly match the dash? If so could you swap the face with a 802 radio and then have a good one without the expense of rebuilding a second radio? Of course this doesn't excuse the original seller but maybe something to get you some tunes

When you replied to his "bulk" e-mail did you try a reply to all? This might alert his friends (foolish me as I am assuming he has friends) of his actions.

I did a search of your original posting seeking a radio and did not see anyone posting offers. He must have contacted you privately.

I guess being a greenhorn DOES have it's perks from time to time, as having just joined the forum in June doesn't leave any room for me to be involved. I have been ripped off a time or two , and it's not at all pleasant. I am a new member, but have browsed this forum from time to time quite often for several years, thus I have some limited knowledge of (names I have seen repeatedly) a lot of the active posting members, even though they don't know me at all. I doubt it is one of them, but without knowing it is going to be hard to do any business with anyone from this forum without just a little hesitation. If it is someone that has had some bad luck, or just hasn't gotten around to doing what they said they would do (refund), hopefully they will realize that it's not too late, and that most of the guys here don't seem inclined to hold it against them if they will now get on the stick. Never too late to do the right thing. Joel

Hey, I can't believe that everyone has missed this, we sort of got a confession out of Normspeed. I think that we should sentence him to chipping paint off of all the GM cars that people want painted for free. That would keep him busy, and he wouldn't have time to do it again. Tony C

I had a experience with another web site... I agreed to buy his item he said would work for me .. there was no way I would of known if it would of worked or not other than his word!.. well I bought them I could not get them to work . I had a "professional " recheck .. and he told me no way they would work!.. And they damaged my car!..I email and call the guy he takes them back.. now every and any time I think of buying something . he makes a comment.. The bad part is "some" Sellers expect you to just take what they send you .. and its too bad if you don't like it... Mechanic's and parts guys are like cousins ... might have some of the same blood , but are not from the same Parents!..They end up call u too picky.. I say one would not be too picky if they wern't too pricey...

I think as this forum grows we will attract some dishonest people and do need to be a little aware of who we deal with.

A few months ago I was looking for a carb for a P15 and posted here. The next day I received a pm from a member with 0 or 1 post offering to sell me one being the non trusting person I am (growing up in a suburb of a big city makes you like that) I either declined or ignored the message. Now this could have been a honest offer but since I did not know the person from here I was not comfortable with the transaction.

Been kind of busy the last week, I have a problem (so my wife thinks) I only buy. I have at least four front end rebuild kits, 12 pistions, 12 exhaust valves, two nos heater control dodads, three nos steering wheel horn rims, and last but not least only one of me etc.

Sorry to hear about this Robin. I have a extra 53 radio, but I do not think it would work in your car.

Hope it all works out and this person has just had a little cash emergency and will make it right. Oh buy the way it was not me. Did I say that I have a NOS radio for only $10,000 and I would even throw in the I-5 bridge between Portland and Vancouver.
