Bryan
On my D24 transmission area have different questions. First picture, what is the open hole on the side for? Where can you get a handbrake cable for less than $100? Can you use a thick handbrake lining that is oily if cleaned up? Why would a transmission have holes that leak that end up to a blank gasketed area on the bellhousing flange? They are not bolt holes. joecoozie
www.oldmoparts.com - has cable for $110.00 "First picture, what is the open hole on the side for?" - Is it threaded and does it go all the way through? It looks like it could be a hole for a guide pin (maybe for an overdrive unit). One reason your transmission would leak is bad seals and/or gaskets. Or the case has a crack. One other thing - I hope, while you have the transmission out, that you are going to replace those rear motor/trans mounts. They are totally shot (from what I see in the pics). I would also replace the front motor mount because I would suspect it is as bad as the rears.

You're more than likely going to need the lower mounts, too, because they will probably be as bad as the uppers.
Conn47D24
Take your handbrake cable to a local wire rope/ cable shop. They can restore it with new wire cable.
Young Ed
Somewhere along the way for 46-48 plymouth the lower mounts were eliminated. So possibly they aren't needed for him.

Less than $100.
Andydodge
There "should" be a gasket between the bellhousing and the gearbox that covers those holes in the gearbox..............at least thats what my cars had........, andyd
Happy 46R
Hi I am not sure what the hole you mentioned in the side of the transmission would be for. I have attached a picture of my transmission on an all original 46 D25C Canadian cousin to yours. There is nothing attached to my standard three speed, (no OD) in that hole and mine does not appear to be threaded although I didn't test it. As for the leak there is a blind hole in the transmission that flats against the bell housing. There is a gasket that goes between the bell housing and the transmission face that covers that hole and occasionally someone cuts it out when they put the two together. In fact the gasket covers the hole sealing it off. There is also a gasket on the end of the shaft cover that bolts the pilot shaft to the transmission close by where your arrow is on picture that says leaking in this area. When I pulled my transmission after noting some seepage around the edges of the face that someone had actually cut that hole out of the gasket but that the new gasket was solid across that face. Hope the pictures help but there was also a thread I think in the technical section dealing with the same issue but my quick search didn't locate anything. Hope it works for you. rallyace
As Conn47 mentioned, you can get a cable made up. Check with your local truck driveline repair shop or a farm equipment repair shop.
MarcDeSoto
Bryan, If you think those motor mounts from Rock Auto are going to do the trick, you are in for bad news. I also ordered those motor mounts (made in India). I knew they would be bad, but I just wanted to see how bad. The purpose of Chrysler's cushioned rubber motor mounts was to stop vibration from entering the cab of the car's body. Those cheap motor mounts are so hard they might as well be made of wood or steel. I'm not sure who sells the soft rubber type intended by Chrysler, but you will have to pay more than $2.76 for them. Maybe Steele Rubber has some good ones?

Have a 4 wheeler go kart that had a rubber battery hold down strap. It cracked and fell off in a year with not much use. Bought a replacement, it did the same thing. Finally used a bungee. Eneto-55
Two thoughts on the hole in the side of the transmission: Oil level check hole? (If so, should be a plug in it.) Backup light switch hole? (I know that the P15s did not have provision for a backup light switch, but I'm not familiar with the Dodges, so maybe they got it before the Plymouths. I've wondered if all of the internals are the same on the P15 trannines as in the ones from the 50's, and if so, could a person have a hole drilled & tapped there in the older trannine case, close enough that the backup light switch from a later transmission would work correctly.) MarcDeSoto
I found this set which is complete for your Dodge, but I have not inspected it. I wrote them and asked if the rubber is soft or firm. I'll bet it is firm. Steele rubber does not sell the kit, but offers a re-vulcanization service where you have to send in your original mounts. I guess they need the steele parts. Again, I haven't checked their work. https://www.ebay.com/itm/173244888404?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140131123730%26meid%3D005e0a4f6a5243c59edfa37cc5d4b0ad%26pid%3D100167%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D173602669472%26itm%3D173244888404%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D5411%26algv%3DDefaultOrganic%26brand%3DMopar&_trksid=p5411.c100167.m2940

Dartgame
Did you check the hole in the side of the trans and see if it is truly open ? I believe mine has the same but is plugged or not drilled through.
