I was wondering if it’s on of the 600, it original had no back seat, and that it had a large tray behind the seat, larger than normal the other owner said. Thank you. Quote

Wont change the existing photos you have only new photos. Quote

Thank you, The gentleman thought it was the Hayes bodied coupe and that would of had a back seat. Yes there were only 600 made for Dodge, 600+ for Desoto and the rest for Chrylser. Since you have the self inthe back and a little door onthe passenger side where the spare tire is stored this is a Businessmans coupe. I'm all for customizing but those pieces look out of place. Either make it look stock or custom, not some of both. Cool looking car though, I hooe you enjoy it. Quote
MackTheFinger Posted June 25, 2021 Report Posted June 25, 2021 Took a look at it on the shop's website. If the car was in "The Big Sleep" it's not the one Bogart was driving. That one was a Plymouth as mentioned by Bogart in the movie and according to IMDB they used the same car in "High Sierra." Both great movies and IMO "The Big Sleep" was Bogart's best. John Reddie Posted June 25, 2021 Report Posted June 25, 2021 Two great films, "The Big Sleep" and "High Sierra". It's interesting that In "High Sierra", they used both a '37 and a '38 Plymouth coupe. They were supposed to be the same car but the grilles are noticeably different. Throughout the late '30's and the '40's, Warner Brothers used both of these same cars in some of their films which was great. I have many of these films and never tire of seeing them. 1939 Dodge 4 door sedans were often used as police cars as well. John R 1 Quote

I haven't seen "High Sierra" in quite a while and I admit to not noticing the cars so much. It is a great movie! I need to take another look at it. I thought I remembered Bogart mentioning a "gray Plymouth coupe' " in "The Big Sleep" when I saw the mention of the movie on the Dodge builder's site. If it was the same car I wanted to ask about the hidden panel with the two Colts under the dash. One of the things I enjoy about movies from that era is seeing the cars and the location shots. Then of course there's dialogue, lighting, cinematography, wardrobe. Heck, I like just about everything about movies from that era, even the obligatory musical numbers they stuck in all of them! There is another Warner Brothers film titled "In this Our Life" made in 1942 in which George Brent drives a 1937 Plymouth coupe that I believe could very possibly be the same one featured in "High Sierra" filmed the previous year. It has a power steering and a rack and pinion now also, I will paint the column and replace the steering wheel with some thing more correct looking. Quote
