pflaming Posted September 3, 2020 Report Posted September 3, 2020 When I started my engine, the connection to the oil gauge was wrong and I pumped some oil into / onto the back of the dash, which now must be a fire hazard. I.have opened It up so I can somewhat get to it, And cleaned all the wires but there remains oil in the recesses and seeps out. Oil does not evaporate, so it must be removed. Suggestions requested! pflaming Posted September 3, 2020 Author Report Posted September 3, 2020 One solution thar I will use first. Apply baking soda to the area. This will soak up the oil. Allow the baking soda to sit for 10-15 minutes.[4] then will vacuum and blow it all out. Quote
pflaming Posted September 4, 2020 Author Report Posted September 4, 2020 I first sprayed everything behind the dash with acetone to thin any oil, since acetone quickly evaporates, thought that was safe. Connection at battery still off. Then I covered the area with backing soda and forced it into cracks and joints. Then let that rest for 15 minutes and put the air hose to it. That really cleaned things. I checked back after an hour and no wet spots. Will wait until morning then recheck and reblow with air before I close it back up. Quote
pflaming Posted September 4, 2020 Author Report Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) Yes, I think all is safe now. Edited September 4, 2020 by pflaming Quote
Frank Elder Posted September 4, 2020 Report Posted September 4, 2020 Brake Kleen should remove whatever is left and evaporates on its own. 2 Quote

pflaming Posted September 17, 2020 Author Report Posted September 17, 2020 Working on my ‘53 Plymouth. I ordered one from Roberts. Trust it’s the correct one! Quote
Tooljunkie Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 A simple substitute for a flexible oil line could be a grease gun whip hose. Weatherhead made a good one , dont know if they still do. Adapters from 1/8 npt to inverted flare are available too. Quote
Young Ed Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 I haven't used it yet but I've got a brake hose from a more modern vehicle that is supposed to be a direct replacement. Quote
