Bdblazer1978 Posted March 18, 2020 Report Posted March 18, 2020 I searched but couldn't find an answer. How do I remove the temp wire running from the back of the engine to the instrument panel from the instrument panel. I'm trying to remove the instrument panel. Quote
B1B Keven Posted March 18, 2020 Report Posted March 18, 2020 It's not a wire. It's a small diameter copper tube with a protective wrap around it. There's a 'bulb' in the head filled with either gas. Soak the two ( inner and outer ) gland nuts with Kroil or PBBlaster for a few days. Sometimes you can get them apart. If you smell 'starter fluid' during your attempt to remove/loosen them, the tube has broken and the bulb and tube need to be replaced. 1 Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted March 18, 2020 Report Posted March 18, 2020 be extremely careful...once the jamb nut is removed...it could still be so siezed that removing it is still a job...do not wiggle it much by the tube of and keep in mind that the very top of the bourdon tube is not a very strong bond either... 1 Quote
TodFitch Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 On my car there is a expansion/welch/freeze plug on the head above the sensing bulb. Not sure that exists on all versions of the Mopar L-6 engine but maybe it does. I believe you can remove that plug to give you a place to push from behind the bulb if it is frozen in place. I know from experience that it is quite easy to break the seal between the bulb and capillary if you try pulling on it. Been there, done that and that is why I figured out how to graft a new bulb on to my dash unit. 1 Quote

If the engine is full of coolant, you can pour in some citric/vinegar/muriatic acid of your choice (gently) and a lot of it will stay in place. That will help dissolve the rust that is holding tight to the bulb. Quote
Todd B Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 I remember when I was building my first B1B back in 1980 and my dad sent me out to the junk yard to get a good temp gauge. I struggled getting it through the firewall so I just took a side cutter and cut it in half. Just to make sure I got a good one I brought back two of them. I smelled the alcohol but thought nothing of it. When I got home my dad just shook his head and if memory serves me right he called me a dumb!$@. In my defense I was only 16 then. 2 Quote
Brent B3B Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 I've only had a 33% success rate so far of removing the bulb without damage. luckily my neighbor to the North rebuilds them Quote

Bdblazer1978 Posted March 26, 2020 Author Report Posted March 26, 2020 I'm 0/1 in trying to remove. Even after a lot of PB I snapped the bulb off. What does it cost to have it fixed? Thanks Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 26, 2020 Report Posted March 26, 2020 odds are if it is going to be fixed it is going to be you doing the job.....the process is outlined on this forum a number of times in various threads 1 Quote
