Don Coatney Posted May 24, 2015 Report Posted May 24, 2015 When I was a kid in High School every Memorial Day was special as I pulled my and my parents car into the front yard of my parents house, cranked up the AM radio on an extension cord to hear the big race as it was not televised locally at that time, washed, and waxed both cars. Never a dull moment. So today I told my wife I was going to watch the race on TV. So I spent the morning out and about buying a few tools, came home and started assembling them and went in, parked my self in front of the TV at noon to watch the race. What a disappointment. I listened to the lack of Jim Neighbors singing "Back Home in Indiana", the lack of good pomp and circumstance, nothing like it used to be. After 45 minutes of watching caution lap racing I returned to my garage and completed my new tool assembly. Then I went back inside to watch the race. My wife Lisa was sitting in the living room with the TV on and the race dialed in. I asked her what was going on and she told me the race was under caution for a long time. I returned to the garage and I am still out here. I think the thrill of watching racing is no longer any fun. I have not watched a Nascar race this year. I sure miss the good old days. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted May 24, 2015 Report Posted May 24, 2015 I know what you mean. Watched the Monaco GP........it is always cool but it lacks the charisma it had when the cars were a bit slower. I would gladly dial the calender back to the days of the early 60's.......much more exciting.....cars were still cars....not computers. All the technology sort of ruins it. Jeff 1 Quote
RobertKB Posted May 24, 2015 Report Posted May 24, 2015 NASCAR has not been the same since Dale Earnhardt was killed. I used to watch it all the time but some of the "earthiness" is gone. I liked Rusty Wallace, too. 1 Quote
pflaming Posted May 26, 2015 Report Posted May 26, 2015 Should quickly remove crash drivers, bull doze the wrecks, street sweep the area and get to racing. Or just leave the wrecks and make them a part of the "race". Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 26, 2015 Report Posted May 26, 2015 NASCAR has not been worth watching since the days of race on Sunday sell on Monday ...... hit the gas turn left and bounce off the wall...I was hoping for a bit more than that...after all, we have put a man on the noon... Quote
Ulu Posted May 26, 2015 Report Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) I almost never watch motorsports. I want to drive. I don't want to sit & watch other people drive, no matter how good they are. Edited May 26, 2015 by Ulu Quote
greg g Posted May 26, 2015 Report Posted May 26, 2015 The Monaco GP is pretty much a non event these days and has always been win Qualifying on Sat. then lead the parade on Sunday. Only thing that makes the race interesting are screwups like happened to Hamilton, or a good rain during the parade. The Indy finish was pretty good with three or four cars pretty much in the same second at the end. But in all three $$$$ usually proves out. Quote
