Conn47D24 Posted May 24, 2015 Report Posted May 24, 2015 I found these INSIDE the frame at the front end. One on EACH side. Just loose laying in mud and sludge. matching set, each side???? Couldn't be an accidental drop from and old repair. Not TWICE ! Came loose from their appointed duty ??? But WHAT ? Any thoughts folks?? Clay Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 24, 2015 Report Posted May 24, 2015 (edited) those are the bolts for the front motor mount frame that sits on the cross support ...odds are you either have missing ones...replacement ones...or someone is now using four bolts instead of the two u bolts Edited May 24, 2015 by Plymouthy Adams 1 Quote
wayfarer Posted May 24, 2015 Report Posted May 24, 2015 They likely set them 'out-of-the-way' and then forgot where... Not uncommon when you reach a certain age..... 1 Quote

Ditto. Definitely front motor mount bolts. They are in great shape so use as needed. Edited May 24, 2015 by RobertKB 1 Quote
Conn47D24 Posted May 24, 2015 Author Report Posted May 24, 2015 You guys are amazing ! Thanks, I will set them aside with the new mounts I have purchased. Have a great weekend. Clay Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 24, 2015 Report Posted May 24, 2015 (edited) to further clarify, they are not for the sandwiched rubber mount asn their mounting studs are part of the mount..they are for the bottom of the metal stand..these go at the bottom where the stand mounts to the cross support..not the mount position at the top Edited May 24, 2015 by Plymouthy Adams 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 24, 2015 Report Posted May 24, 2015 They are for the "FLOATING POWER" bracket. If you look closely you will see one in this photo. Quote
40plyrod Posted May 24, 2015 Report Posted May 24, 2015 Location as shown.... If that's where they go they must be from my car, mine were just grade 8 bolts from the top with nuts on the bottom. Quote
JD luxury liner Posted May 28, 2015 Report Posted May 28, 2015 (edited) it is possible for those u bolts to lay inside of the frame when removing the engine. Edited May 28, 2015 by JD luxury liner Quote
DonaldSmith Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 One would think that these U-bolts would be irretrievably lost if they fell into the crossmember. But not to fear! There are openings in the bottom of the crossmember that allow you (or anyone else) to retrieve them, and even manipulate them. \ Sorry, couldn't find a good photo. Quote
martybose Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 It looks to me that those same U-bolts are used on the bottom of the crossmember for the lower A-arm shaft mounts. Marty Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 Parting cars out... I just leave them there. Quote
