So I have been unemployed for 3 months. And my dodge is running pretty much perfect.

So I have 3 motorcycles in the garage. One being a Harley sportster cafe racer I built. Well today I set the deal to trade it for a 1951 Ford F2 the looks just about new. Very little body work ever done to it, sadly it was repainted white and the original color is a medium blue. It has the flat bed and flathead v8 with 4 speed trans. Starts up great but only runs about 30 seconds. I see fuel being pumped up to the fuel pump and to the carb. It has two see through fuel filters. New points distributor cap plugs and wires. I will post pics when I get to my computer.

is there supposed to be a question here...?

Think its more like a confession. He stated he was nuts and then told us why

Only if you might know other than carb what would cause the truck to only run 30 seconds or so.

More of an off topic I think I am nuts.

I love old Triumphs, one of these days I hope to get one. I had to pass on an Austin about a year ago sadly the title was lost in several owners of moving about.

I'd check the ballast resistor. When they get old they'll work for a second then open up & the ignition quits.

Ballast resistor. I will look into that thanks. Trying to find a good ford forum for old trucks.

I had a '59 that wasn't bad, but the frame had cracked around all the rivet holes. I had to weld it all over.

Had typical cab sill rot, but not much. It was quick, but wasn't half the truck of my '61 IHC.

Unfortunately the IHC had 4-fender-death-rot from 10 years in Utah.

That IHC 304 was a great engine.

I had a 52 F3 for a number of years with the 4spd heavy duty transmission. (From what I can remember, the F3 was a nominally rated 1 ton pickup, vs. the 3/4 ton F2. Same running gear, stouter suspension.) The thing was a beast, wish I still had it. Running for a little while then stalling sounds like a fuel problem to me. The fuel consumption outpaces what's going into the fuel bowl. Check the float level and needle valve. Mine had the flathead V8 and was converted to 12v, didn't have a ballast resistor.

Thanks Dan.  Mine is a 4spd heavy duty trans, V8 Flathead 6v.  I was thinking carb, but a) it never hurts to ask, and B) at mid 40's myself I still don't know as much as I did when I was a teenager, so I ask questions  .

I'd like to see the cafe racer you traded for the truck.

Nice! I'd hop on that, & buzz over to Covington Chili for a 5-way.  :D

(Chili is different out here...)

Looks like a fun ride.

It was a very fun ride. But I built it to sell and I had it to long so a trade was a good idea. It was a 1200s so dual plug heads, converted to chain drive new tires, new paint, solo seat, rear set pegs with 1 up 4 down shift pattern.

It would pull the front wheel in the first two gear. Very fast. But I have two other bikes in the garage as well.

That truck will make a nice bike hauler, I like that cab style. Put some slicks on the back, a slight rake, and head out.
