pflaming Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) Since it is driving on the right side of the road and in the mountains, it may well have been modified for a tour" ride. Plate does not appear to have a word on top, so possilby a special plate. Also the number L 140 May reference "limo". Edited March 3, 2015 by pflaming 1 Quote
1940plymouth Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 Can anyone read the plate? Sure would be interesting to know the location. which would make more detective work possible Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 Since it is driving on the right side of the road and in the mountains, it may well have been modified for a tour" ride. That would be my guess. Custom made, probably to rent, for touring in that beautiful countryside. 1 Quote

1940plymouth Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 The plate is L470, I was able to read that part also, I was wondering what state or province. 1 Quote
40plyrod Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 It looks like an Alberta license plate and that would make sense because it looks a lot like the rocky mountains. 2 Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 And..........in looking at the stop light bezel..........I think it says Dodge, not Plymouth..........Canadian car? Probably. 1 Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted March 5, 2015 Report Posted March 5, 2015 Now......is the Brewster Transport company still around? Did they park one of those glass topped models in a corner at the rear of their garage and forget about it.......and it's still there today? What company would have produced and installed those glass roof segments? P.S. They also had the glass top 1954, 55 and 56 Fords. Some of those had a special see through hood with plexiglass panel. BobT-47P15 Posted March 5, 2015 Report Posted March 5, 2015 I just sent a note to Brewster asking if they had any additional pictures or information on those old Dodges. Will see if any info is forthcoming. 1 Quote

Robin (UK) Posted March 5, 2015 Author Report Posted March 5, 2015 More info...Another web search reveals that the car was converted by Western Flyer Coach and delivered to Banff. It's described on this list as an auto conversion with transparent roof... http://www.angelfire.com/ca/TORONTO/builders/wfclist.html Quote
1940plymouth Posted March 5, 2015 Report Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Oh wow Robin that link is great. I got a nice email from the girl at Brewster saying there was no record of a Glass topped Dodge, but they had a fleet of new 1946 Ford Busses. I sent that link to her, maybe she will be able to find out more info. Edited March 5, 2015 by 1940plymouth 1 Quote
Young Ed Posted March 5, 2015 Report Posted March 5, 2015 That third bus back is a 46-47 dodge. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 6, 2015 Report Posted March 6, 2015 (edited) I received a reply from Brewster that included the attached picture of glass topped busses they used back in that same time period. The third bus from this end is a Dodge......the others are Fords. Their message is as follows: Dear Bob, Thank you for your inquiry. I’ve attached an image of the touring vehicles used by Brewster in 1946/47. In 1946, Brewster Transport purchased 2 25-passenger bus bodies built on Dodge DD7S truck chassis from a Calgary Dodge dealer and delivered to the Western plant in Winnipeg. Over the winter of 1947/48, two more units were built on DE6 five ton truck chassis with a more luxurious ‘skyview’ glass roof seating 29-passengers. Unfortunately we do not have information on who provided/manufactured the glass roofs.
