Bingster Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 I may be wrong, but the fella asking for any information where he could find wiper arms was asking for information, not asking if somebody had some for sale. I thought this forum was for such information, helping each other to find parts. He said can anybody point him in the right direction. I'd like to hear any views on this. 1 Quote
Andydodge Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 I don't want to upset anyones apple cart here but I tend to agree with you, Bingster........but its not my forum, nor do I make the rules.......andyd Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 perhaps a PM to the moderators would be better avenue to finding the answer... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 I did PM the gentleman with some hopefully useful information. Some times the line is a little blurry. Quote
_shel_ny Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) Agree that the OP was asking for info (or was he), but we know what that leads to. My view would be that in a post, or three down the line they would be offered up by someone, then would be how much do you want?, then would be the mod saying take this to PM/email. Maybe just the mod shortening the process Obviously a grey area to some, but mods make the decisions. Still the best site going, and again: Thanks to GTK, and those assisting him. There are some forums that things do not get locked with instructions. They get deleted with warnings. Lots of forums get really fired up about things. Some places this thread would be deleted because it is not in the correct section. (OT) Some have rules such as: (probably here as well, but I don't know where they are anymore. been so long since I registered) Please post in appropriate sections and stay on topic. (we would be in big trouble, but where would the fun be if we stayed on topic?)(we had a member that became quite irritated(abusive) when anyone veered from HIS thread topic)(after his temporary ban,and realization that he did not own the site he chose not to come and play here any more)(It was not the type of forum that he was used to). Conflicts – All conflicts should be resolved in private via PM, email, or IM Quoting Images - Please do not quote pictures unless it is necessary No Spamming - No spam in PM's, emails, or signatures. It's OK to have a link back to your personal webpage in your signature but any off-topic spam will be deleted. That includes "helping people" by advertising your site/forums to them or soliciting other members. While these forums are free for you to use they cost money to run. No free advertisements - If you are the owner or employee of a company, don't mention it, or put links and phone numbers in posts or signatures. Only Supporting Vendors can use links and numbers in signatures and posts. Posting any type of link to a non supporting vendor whose company is in direct competition with supporting vendors is not allowed. If you are developing a product, you may talk about it until you have it ready and/or you are taking orders for the product. At that point you must become a Supporting Vendor to be able to promote your products. Edited January 31, 2015 by shel_ny Quote

I don't want to upset anyones apple cart here but I tend to agree with you, Bingster........but its not my forum, nor do I make the rules.......andyd I hate to say it, but I agree with both of you. the guy was looking for a supplier, not someone that has an extra set in their garage. I believe he was a new member also, does this send the wrong message? Why would you search for a supplier in the parts wanted? I still visit this forum, but seldom post anymore. I think it was a lot better when I joined it about 14 years ago. I realize it probably got too complex for GTK to handle alone, but now with moderators and questions being locked it seems more like a government site. Okay, I'm ready to get spanked and sent to bed without my dinner. 1 Quote
P15-D24 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 The original post reads as a parts wanted request. Yes it could be also be read as a information request for names of potential suppliers. A judgment call was made by the moderator. If it was posted to the Classified section people can post with suggestions as to supplier sources, just like a thread in the forum. The first (and only) pinned note in the forum addressed the policy of parts wanted request. This was a big problem area in the previous iteration of the site and I purchased Classified software to directly address the problem. People just have to use it. Want to be part of the solution instead of second guessing moderator judgement calls? Subscribe to the Classified section so you can see new request coming in and being able to help someone. The volume of email traffic from new ads is low so your email won't get flooded and you might be able to clean something out of your garage! 3 Quote
Oldguy48 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 My only comment would be that "Rock" will probably be hesitant to visit our forum again. Wayne Quote
Bingster Posted February 1, 2015 Author Report Posted February 1, 2015 Yes, I'd agree with that. Quote

Bingster Posted February 1, 2015 Author Report Posted February 1, 2015 But if he had searched the classifieds and saw no wiper blades, what would have been his options? Would it not have been natural for him to have went to us to supply him the answer? I for one will be very hesitant to ask for information. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I don't know how many participants go over to the classifieds and look or shop. I know I don't very often. Maybe it would be appropriate to put a note on the main forum saying something like......"I have a question about windshield wiper parts. Please see my message in the classified section. " ......or something like that. And/or, maybe I can try to put that automatic feature in place. Quote
jrhoads Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Honestly, what does it hurt to mention you have something for sale or need something in the main forum?Just my thoughts, not that they count! 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Long before the internet if one were looking to buy and or sell something they would look in the "classified" section of the newspaper, magazine, etc. I believe the "classified" section of this web page serves the same purpose. Quote
jrhoads Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Well now we have the internet... I am new here and just as a couple others were concerned if Rock might not come back, if it weren't for Plymouth Adams, I would have already left here because of a few guys attitudes around here.I view this as a place to help fellow Plymouth heads and as long as nothing is vitriolic or mean spirited, whats with the "get in line and do it the way we say" attitude. Sheeez, The guy was just wondering about a part. I think the classifieds is a nice feature and should be used, just like the search engine, but if a guy asks a simple question why not just answer it if you know the answer? 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 This is a free forum as in it does not cost anyone to participate. The guy who has spent the money to start, maintain, upgrade, and monitor this forum has established a set of rules for all participants to follow. And as a participant I expect to "get in line and do it the way we say" if I want to participate. If the simple rules were not to my liking I simply would not participate. 1 Quote
jrhoads Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) Don, you are one of the people I was talking about. I get it. I run about 15 forums (really) and so I understand why there are certain formats that should be applied to that make things flow. But at least in my case, I don't view a question that can be easily answered as destructive to the whole sum. Lets look at this for what it is. The cars we have are in decline more and more everyday and they are not as popular as the chevy , ford crowds etc.. so that means we are a bit of a minority.I am a new owner, and my son is 16. We are refurbishing this car as his first and he is on this forum as well. Don't you think we should be wanting younger folks to come in and participate in these wonderful cars rather than some of the other things so many of them do? Lets put this "parts" issue aside for a moment. My observation here of a few folks were not so helpful, a bit grumpy and quick to point you to the search engine (even though that was used) rather than offer a warm welcome and helpful answer. I know I am getting a bit off topic here but this has bugged me and I almost left here if it were not for the kind and helpful nature of Plymouthy Adams. I would think most would want to encourage people here rather than run them off eh? I understand the rules and will try to Abide by them, but we are not in boot camp, we are on a old car forum. Young Ed Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I got my first notification of a new classified. I think its a great feature. Quote
RobertKB Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I got my first notification of a new classified. I think its a great feature. Ditto! Really glad to find out about this feature. I do not have the rocker panel trim he is looking for but hopefully someone will be able to help the poster. I feel I will be selling a few items through this feature. Thanks GTK! Quote
BigDaddyO Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I just signed up too. Great feature. Thanks GTK. Quote
deathbound Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 In the case of "Rock", maybe a newbie to forums. I was at one point & sure asked stupid questions (to some), probably in the wrong place/forum (and still might inadvertently do it again). In his case (newbie with his 1st thread/post), maybe let it run for a couple days, with a PM from a moderator that the thread will be moved/locked. Some people (seasoned members), IN MY OPINION, are too lazy to post in the correct forum & just post in the main (car/truck) forums, maybe, they're worried they won't get as many views/replies. I hope he'll stay, but you have to leave your feelings in the bedroom when using forums. 1 Quote
