I straightened the bent louvers with my bare hands. Easily. I'm not a blacksmith either. I push a mouse at work.

They're just long and flimsy, plus there's so many holes they're like swiss cheese.

Now, I did say "I've never seen a custom P15 grille that I really liked..."

You said:

...I have never seen a custom grille in any P15 worth looking at...

Which I take to mean the same thing. Neither one of us has ever seen a good one.

Cheesy louvers...

Not sure about yours. I drove my car thousands of miles with a bare grill and its still the same shape as it was in 48. Well thats until I ran it into an F150 :(

the car was not designed to be driven about with just the louvered panel in place...that panel is designed for the trim to affix  to show the vehicle as such is to show it in a very unfinished condition, say a rat rod at best...if you do not have the trim...can't afford the trim or just want a change...ay the words...if just a change...then knocking the original when it is clear it is not in good repair as pictured is a rash statement

Not sure if this is a Nash or Caddy grille.

1947 Oldsmobile grilles are a fairly close fit.....but they are a bit hard to find.

I LIKE THE BURGUNDY, TURQUOISE, AND THE CONVERTIBLE, BUT NONE OF THE GRILLS. MAYBE PUT IN A CHEVY GRILL. LOL. IT IS SO INTERESTING JUST HOW SIMILAR THE MANUFACTURERS DESIGNS WERE AND ARE. TAKE THE CHROME OFF OF A 47 CHEVY AND A 47 PLYMOUTH AND THEY ARE NEAR DOUBLES. NOTE THE BURGUNDY PLY IN FRONT OF THE RED CHEVY.

NICE SET OF PICTURES, TKS.

Rat Rod!  Oh, Good Lord! I've gored the Sacred Cow!

Plymouthy, there's ONE THING I don't like about my car.

Please don't take it like a personal affront, bud.

nothing personal to me...you the guy who don't like it....just can't believe the post stating flimsy when you have removed all the stiffening pieces from the grille...to that end you made it flimsy and gored your own cow

It is hard to improve on the front of the P-15s, the frenched in headlights look completely out of place on these cars.  About the only thing one can do that does not appear out of place is the chrome bull nose.  Just my opinion.

I do think that the Pontiac hood ornametn which lights up might look quite nice or the Nash flying lady! LOL

The Pontiac Indian Head looks better with the indians in the plastic center piece than the ship. Shouldn't send mixed metaphors.

Then why don't you buy GM if they look so good?        I'm just sayin'.........

As an engineer I find it offensive when the trim has to reinforce the structure. Offhand, I can't think of another place on the car where this is so.

I guess you could say the windshield garnish does, but that's a stretch.

what engineering degree do you have is my question...and whether or not you find a build offensive is neither her nor there since it was  built before your time...and for the windshield garnish..yes..remove that and watch eth entire glass cave in to the interior..again this was how it was done..again it has survived 60+ years...I think they have a very strong record for themselves...submit your patents for us to reviews if you will..

Clearly you are taking this way too serious. You didn't even laugh at my "stretch" joke.

when one comes on confusing facts with whimsy..making unfounded claims....then yes maybe so..and the smileys be danged....these pages are monitored by many..they come here to read and learn  they should not have to go online and have to find and download a BS filter when scanning these pages..we as contributors are charged with being clear and factual in our post...hear that or maybe could or I reckons just don't cut it...

Plymouthy and Ulu, as an engineer, I have a batchelor degree in mechanical engineering and a patent with my name on it......I agree things are done different now as it was done in the past. That's called progress. Not to be confused with improvement. That's an other thing. Could work together but like any engineer (or reader of this forum) knows most of the time it doesn't. That's where Murphy's law comes in. As a rule of thumb, it takes 3 attempts to get from progress / idea to an improvement. We like to call that engineering steps.

Anyway to make a long story short, 3 rules,

1) progress is not the same as improvement,

2) Progress will be messing with Murphy's law to get to an improvement

3) when you encounter Murphy's law, always obay the most important rule ....do not mess with misses Murphy.

I hope this sets thing clear. :P
