mattimuss Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 Hey All, The wife, daughter, wife's in-laws and I were walking around Coronado Island yesterday and I stumbled across this local service garage. Looks like it's been around for a while...since 1904! Anyone else have any pictures of old service stations or dealerships. Quote
1940plymouth Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 This is the dealership in Utica, NY that sold my car brand new. I have no idea if the building is still standing Quote
TodFitch Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 Apparently this AAA authorized service station is the oldest in the country. Logo for the AAA on the building is the 1920s and 1930s one for the California State Automobile Association which covered Northern California (the Automobile Club of Southern California covered the south end of the state). https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=38.035653,-122.764664&spn=0.347207,0.541077&cbll=38.067853,-122.805686&layer=c&panoid=dU_BawyRjfcEuypuQuEpFA&cbp=12,192.6,,0,2.15&t=m&z=11 Quote
TodFitch Posted June 29, 2014 Report Posted June 29, 2014 My car was shipped to Lang Motors in Rochester, NY. A 1934 business directory for Rochester shows Lang Motors at 777 Culver Road. There is a building there that looks like it could have been an auto dealership in that era: https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=43.129052,-77.525711&spn=0.306186,0.617294&cbll=43.159026,-77.566624&layer=c&panoid=r0iGET-p71obWyVDfcw9Xg&cbp=12,287.67,,0,-7.42&t=m&z=11 Quote
Bingster Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Edit by moderator: Looks like DropBox is doing something strange when you just use a shared JPEG location. So I downloaded it then uploaded to your post. Quote
Bingster Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Tried posting a Texaco station but obviously I did something wrong. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Last week in Bedford Pa. I think it said they opened in 1934 and is operated by the same family. Quote
Bingster Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Let's see if this posts. I appreciate the moderator posting it for me earlier, but it comes up huge when clicked. Let's see if this is normal. Quote
ChrisRice Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 Here is the dealership that originally sold my Plymouth on July 8, 1955. i wish that I had pictures of it from then; I reached out to the dealership and never did get a response. https://www.google.com/maps/place/30+W+Main+St/@42.899148,-75.649278,3a,90y,5h,90t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sQWmhNo8f9GdNdbqPYPCr5g!2e0!4m2!3m1!1s0x89d97e3eb0b15683:0x45f6f1e37eeb2d87!6m1!1e1 Quote
Oldguy48 Posted June 30, 2014 Report Posted June 30, 2014 I learned that my P15 was originally sold by "Central Motors, Inc." of Jefferson, IA, after contacting Chrysler Corporate Historical Collection. I searched, but couldn't find anything about that dealership. Wayne Quote

Wayne If there is an older public library in or near Jefferson, IA then contact them and see if they have newspapers and/or a city business directory from that era. The newspapers should have ads and the business directory should list the addresses, etc. of the dealer. Quote

jhm1mc13 Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 This is a picture taken at an Atlantic station in Atlas PA 1964. The 1950 Plymouth is my first car which I paid $35 for and was over charged by $15. It forced me to become a mechanic. After the six quit I put in a 1955 Plymouth V8. I called it Mrs Ruby because I had an Earl Schribe $29.95 ruby maroon paint job until I accidently folded the drivers door against the front fender hence the primer color. I may write a book on the dumb things that happened in that car. Jim M Quote

rusty_apache Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Forster Riggs was one of the Dealers that donated the ill fated 50 year time capsule Plymouth back in '57. Ralph came from this Tulsa dealership in '52, and then to Texas with 22,000 miles according to the 1956 Texas state inspection sticker on the windshield. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 get rid of that flattened thing in the middle..be a nice shot....lol..yes I am biased.... Quote
Young Ed Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 I contacted the historical society for the area where my 48 was sold new. The only dealership photos they had were from when it was still a horse stable! Quote
