Don Coatney Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 My best guess without using Google is, it is a 6 volt. Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 There are more than one of these engines. I will just say 1954. Here is another with 6 carbies Quote
oldodge41 Posted June 12, 2014 Report Posted June 12, 2014 I know but since my name is also Tim I won't spoil the fun. Quote
Brent B3B Posted June 12, 2014 Report Posted June 12, 2014 Spoiler alert! whisper (psst Greg, did you realize on the photo edit you put the year, make and model?) Quote
greg g Posted June 12, 2014 Author Report Posted June 12, 2014 The pic transfer url probably included it as I didn't filter it through my computer. Tim had it. It is a factory hot rod engine of 264 cubic inches and 230 HP, the 4 carter carbs were used on a production car by another GM division's car. This installation of the Pontiac straight 8 was in the Bonneville concept car in 54. All GM divisions had Corvette like concept cars built in 53. Quote
pflaming Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I like the Oldsmobile version the best. Wonder who made the decision on which one to build and why Chevrolet? Was racing interests a part of the decision? Nice thread, interesting and informative. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 just like today..the chevy is the cheaper of the line..if you are unsure and afraid of a flop..let it smack in the face of low cost chebbie...look around you at the recall of GM just this past month...they notorious for first to market last to get right...of my era...Corvair, Vega and the list goes on...it is not only the Chebbie lineup..it is across GM in general..Pontiac (Aztec, Fiero, that Australian flop of the latest breed) had as much a share but in my opinion the Pontiac was just a second avenue of mainstream GM junk...INTRODUCE IT AND LET THE PUBLIC PAY FOR GETTING IT CLOSE TO RIGHT..the prosecution rests...
