I love the originality of your car!  I probably sound like a broken record but our old Mopar's are coming up in the world.  Just in the last year or so I see more of them coming out of the shadows.  I especially like all the survivors...and looks like yours is definitely in that category!  Great find!

Couldn't find an original shifter knob. They are very different from Plymouths and Dodges and kind of match the steering wheel. I like pool so hence the 8-Ball. Tim, if you ever come to visit, and you are welcome any time but you do not have to drive the '38 as I would not want to damage your sensibilities. :P

 

 

If I come that far to visit..I would bring a matching 15 ball shift knob...drive the car or not...!

Same here pictures show the details words tell the story. I will post a link to my Subaru build for you guys to check out. I Luke to think I'm pretty detail oriented with things it's definateky not an old car but since I supercharged it, it is not very common.

I would leave that car the way it is.  Pretty sweet looking in that condition.

I'll be totally honest with you..... My OCD is horrible sometimes and sooner or later a restoration would happen. I just cant personally leave a car with its fotina...... Rat rods I cant do either. I respect and appreciate the work but I like a clean put together car.

But leaving it that way would not make it a rat rod.  It would be a survivor, a rare breed indeed. 

 

Try and get it street worthy so you can enjoy it this summer,  see what people say, then do the tear down in the winter.  Having a tore down car in the summer is real a bummer....just ask me, I know!

 

IMO you have a real rare car that is not seen at many shows.  A lot of older Mopars are like that.  

 

That is going to be a great car in whatever state you call finished!

yeah this isn't a car I need up and running and the intended purspose was to be a limo for my wedding so I don't wanna crunch and not have it done.

 

I agree with you to a point that it is a survivor and would be neat to leave but as time goes the rust and corrosion will just get worse and like I said I don't know if I could bring myself to leaving it like that. I kind of look at it, that if im going to mess with it then im going to fix it right.

 

Im not to sure how rare the royals are honestly. this car and the knowledge behind it is very new to me. by the way where in IL are you?

I'm not sure how rare they are either, but I do know they stopped making them a long time ago. I think yours was last made in 1938. :)

 

I've got the 8-ball on my VW Bug, Lumpy has a knob off a military WWII Power Wagon. Cool thing about knobs is that you can change them any time to fit your mood. One could go from Rat Fink to Eight Ball to cue ball to chrome skull with lighted eyes to 7-ball to stock knob in less than a minute! 

 

Do I feel a "show us your shift knobs" thread coming on?

I do not think the 39 Desot0, Chrysler Dodge trunk lid will work onthe car.  The 38 If I remember correctly had a bustle back setup. The trunk lid on the 39's flow with the entire body and the 39's do not have the bustle back style.

At least for Plymouth they had both. That flat back is a sedan and the hump back is a touring sedan.

Hey everyone. Im new here. I just purchased a 1938 Chrysler Royal. I am here to possibly get some help in parts sourcing and getting some good info on this car.

 

The main parts I know for a fact I need body wise are a drivers fender and trunk.... the rest will come later but I feel those by far will be the hardest to source out.

 

 

Not to sure how to post pics here yet but ill figure it out.

Congrats! That looks like the first car I ever bought,but with nicer paint. Great driving and great riding old cars. You are really going to enjoy it.

BTW,I actually went to a local car show last month,and damned if the coupe version of your car wasn't there. The body and trim were restored,but it had a Mopar 360 and auto overdrive in it and custom upholstery.

 

I say it was restored outside,but it had a cream body and sorta metallic brown fenders. I have no idea if that matched any original paint scheme or not,but it sure did look good.

Oh,yeah! I will run right past a restored show winner to drool over a original survivor in good condition.

 

I do admire the work,money,and dedication it takes to correctly restore a car to show condition,but I'm still hot for the same beater cars I was hot for as a kid because I knew back then I could never afford a nice one.

 

Which pretty much describes my financial condition today.
