ggdad1951
Happy holidays everyone, to me TODAY is x-mas from childhood, Santa always visited while I was at church for the xmas eve program and then we'd head to grandma's for xmas supper (goose!)....sadly this is the first xmas w/o grandma, she passed this last summer at the ripe old age of 102. So I am looking for new traditions to start and move on in life. Here's hoping you all find the "rarest part ever" wrapped under your tree whenever you celebrate xmas. Cheers! HanksB3B
Merry Christmas to you Mark and everyone. It’s a real ugly morning here in Los Angeles rainy as all get out so I’m sort of in denial and not counting it as Christmas yet. Sorry grandma won’t be around for this one. But may we all be around for that many! Merry Christmas, Hank Edited December 24, 2012 by HanksB3B

Jeff Balazs
Merry Christmas. Mark I know what you are going through I lost my Mom last year and my Dad a few years before. Holidays are the toughest. It just isn't the same without our loved ones. There is a circle in life though...and our loved ones never really die as long as we have our memories....and I have a true story to prove it. Many years ago my Wife and I went to my folks for Christmas Day. Her parents and her Grandfather were to join us at the folks house for the day. About 9 in the morning we got a call from her mother telling us that when they stopped in to pick up Grandpa they had found he had passed away. She wanted us to go ahead and have Christmas morning and they would get there as soon as they could. Talk about putting a damper on things.......let me tell you there is nothing quite like this experience to quiet things down. We went ahead and opened some packages but to tell you the truth no one was much into it. My Mom went ahead and prepared one of her famous spreads and my Dad busied himself finding a prayer he had remembered seeing once for those who pass away on Christmas day. When they finally arrived we sat an talked about Grandpa for awhile and then my mother-in-law asked me what I had got for Christmas. Among the gifts I had received was an old leather bound book of fishing stories. My folks had bought it for me at a huge antique show that they had attended earlier in the year. When I handed it to my mother-in-law and she opened it the look on her face was priceless. The sadness left and was replaced with a smile of amazement. The book was inscribed to the original owner a Doctor. Not just any doctor though.......Grandpa and Grandma's family Doctor who had passed away several years before. She went on to tell us that this Doctor was a great friend of grandpa and sent postcards to him every year from the fishing destinations he went to. And she knew right where they were in Grandpa's house. So now to make this whole story really come together. My parents had no idea who the Doctor was or that there was any family tie. My Dad picked it up on a whim from a bookseller that had bought it from an estate sale years before. In fact it had traveled all around the country to various antique shows...... only to wind up in the one household it would have any real meaning in.......and on the one day it mattered most. The rest of the day was made much easier as I think we all knew this was more than a simple coincidence. Take care and enjoy the Holidays, Jeff

Mark D
You must be of scandinavian decent. Christmas eve traditions still run strong here in central Massachusetts as well. buds truck
we used to do the Christmas eve thing when I was a kid, but when I got married, we went to the traditional Christmas day event. Looks like we might get a white Christmas here this year. We shall see. Merry Christmas to all!!!

Apittslife
My Mother's only brother died in an automobile accident a week before Christmas in 1976. My grandmother (His Mother), passed away almost to the day in 1997 (He died @ 21 & she passed 21 years later). The difference is that we knew she was leaving us (terminal cancer), We had hoped she would live thru the holidays, but understand why she passed when she did! Christmas was always very hard on her since the loss of her youngest child, days from what was her favorite holiday! She was the matriarch of the family & the glue that held us all together, & since her passing no-one has taken her place & the family has all but disbanded. But while I will not be with my own family, I will enjoy Christmas for what it is suppose to be, A Celibration (SP?) of Life, & Thanks for the Past, Present & Future Blessings! May Everyone & their families have a blessed holiday, & upcoming year!
Flatie46
We had a really good, close friend pass away unexpectedly on the 21st. I don't like to use the term "best friend", I am blessed with many great friends. But he was a super guy with a great heart and was very giving in everyway. His passing has had a somber effect on the hollidays. I've prayed for his family and will continue to do so. It does bring into focus the reason for the season. I don't mean to get too religous on the forum, I just miss my friend. I wish all of you a great Christmas. Take the time to stop and give all your friends and familys a hug and tell them you love them.
NiftyFifty
Merry Christmas everyone!! This time of year can be full of cheer and joy, but also with every holiday it reminds us of what has changed, and that includes family losses. I never got to experience Xmass with my grandparents, my last grandparent died at age 3, so for those that got that joy your blessed. My sister is expecting a new baby any day now, so tomorrow could be a double joyous holiday, but no matter where you are or who your with enjoy your day and treat your Dodge to a little seafoam and a wash
