pat lehmann Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 wow you are really doing a great job on this thing! & hauling ass it appears! Quote
kitesurfjohn Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 I have only just seen this thread - doing a fantastic job it will look sensational! I did think though it looked fantastic in original shape. I would have left it and just driven that thing around as is, but that's just me. Mine is a rough old farm truck and you get two views on that 1) what a piece of old 5hit or 2) awesome original patina. Quote
pflaming Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Kitesurfjohn, you are right on about the two perspectives. Yet when folk take a 2nd look at mine, they understand why I kept it as is. What Judson is doing is commendable. That will be a beauty, no doubt. 1 Quote

pflaming Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 What a good looking red truck. I wet sanded mine with 800 and 1000 grit. I was amazed at what I found. Try a spot in the bed or the bottom of the cab for a test. Quote
kitesurfjohn Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 Love it! fantastic to see it being used for what it was designed for. The resto ones look great but I do like a bit of patina/rust originality, well I have to say that. Mine looks like it has been buried under the ocean for most of its life. And here she was needing a lift home. Using the ole broad.. she treats me good, I treat her good. hahah Quote

judsonhauling Posted April 14, 2013 Author Report Posted April 14, 2013 Steering box all back together after being blased, cleaned, and ready for paint. had to use the plotter to cut a gasket as I was unable to source one and also was able to order a oil seal from Fed Mogul.. Got the steering box in, powder coated the pitman arm, drag bar and steering with new knuckles and hardware. went ahead and mounted the front new rubber and installed them. Also go the windshield in. Hired a expert to finish the back glass after struggling with the rear center. Quote

Glad to see she's still running though. My dad would be happy - it was his toy for more than 30 years. He gave it to me when he couldn't drive it anymore. It was more than I could restore, and now it's getting much more attention than I was able to give it. I do still miss it sometimes, esp with my Dad gone, but at least its getting used instead of junked. It went to the right person - - Former Caretaker 2 Quote
