Aussie D25 Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 The little missus and I are heading to the US ! That's right people, lock up your garages cause I'm coming to the land of the free ... so I expect all parts for free So after 12 months of marital bliss we decided that if we are going to flee the country, pre kids would be the best time to do this. Heading to LA on the 19th Oct spending a week then driving to Vegas for a week , then over the big apple for a week, back to Frisco for a few days and then home again. My wife Vicky is nuts.... ahem, for theme park rides so as long as I tick off 6 Flags and Knottsberry Farm... I basically get to do what ever else tickles my car loving fancy. So from Bobs Big boy to El Mirage to NHRA finals to everything else in between all seems sorted bar one thing ... Getting in to the SEMA show. Is there anyone on here that is registered with SEMA that can get guest passes that I can pay a princely sum for ??? If anyone knows anyone that can help two Mopar loving tourists out then we would be greatly appreciative. Quote
chopt50wgn Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Aussie.............I was at SEMA last year with my job. I work for Evans cooling but we are'nt going this year. I think if you contact the SEMA show, there are ways to get a pass without being a business. I saw guest passes on many people but do not know how they got them. If you do get to go, be prepared to walk............they say if you walk every aisle in every hall it's 37 miles. Quote

Now I'm not a big fan of concrete so the cities do not interest me, having said that, I would recommend while in Las Vegas you drive accross Boulder Dam and head over to the Grand Canyon and adjust your time to see Yosemite. Both are 'Wonders of the World'. Whatever, enjoy your time here, but for our insane politicians, it's a great country. Quote

I was there in 2008 with my family for a summer vacation. Pictures and words can not explain what you will see. Also take the helicoter ride over the top of the canyon the true sites are breath taking. Hope you have a great trip to the States. It is a shame but you will have just missed the biggest flea market and car show that is held in early October at Hershey. They have over 10000 vendors and 2000 cars in the show. pflaming Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Be careful with the GA guys, they will feed you sweet potato pie and GRITS! Consider Frankie, he'll feed you sweet corn on the cob and a Nebraka corn fed steak at Johnnies! Now that's living on the high side. Quote
greg g Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) might want to put Niagara falls on the menu also, and seeing as how we are half way from NY to Niagara, we'd be happy to host you for a rest stop or a Dinner or an overhight along the way. NY wine country is a day trip away, and Darien lake theme park is between here and the falls. In any case if you find yourself on the I 90 corridore in NY state give us a shout. Member Dan Hiebert is near Niagara. We traveled cross country out to Yellowstone Park a few years back and met up with several forum folks along the way. Made the trip much more enjoyable, so don't be shy (is there such a thing as a shy Aussie?). http://www.godarienlake.com/ Edited July 10, 2012 by greg g Quote

Being a bit of an outdoors type, I'd second the previous poster's comments about Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. The new bridge over the Colorado River at Hoover/Boulder Dam is supposed to be quite an impressive sight. Sounds like you'd be getting into San Francisco early to mid November. Don't know if it is closed then or perhaps limited to weekends only, but the boardwalk and rides on the beach in Santa Cruz might be of interest. Oh, and by the way, don't call it "Frisco" to anyone who lives in the San Francisco area, especially not to ones who live in "The City". (Not to be confused with "The City" referred to by those in the NYC area.) Quote
claybill Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 when traveling thru northern illinois like CHICAGO, AMERICAS BEST KEpT SECRET,!.. we are 3 hours to the west on I-80 and I-90. along the mississippi river.! A rest stop, an overnight , a fine dinner with friends, it's all here for you. claybill 815-281 1347.. Quote

Mark D Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Boston is a three hour train ride from NYC and a great way to see the southern new england coastline. If you stopped in Boston I'd give you a tour of the birthplace of the american revolution in my first series '49. Quote
pflaming Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Your wife, lover of thrills, will enjoy the cantilever catwalk over the grand canyon. As I understand it, it telescopes out over the canyon wall and with a glass bottom is effective. Hint: get a good convert in LA and drive the nation forum member to forum member. I would venture to say you will get good meals and lodging for the entire trip and you will see the nation as few American's have seen it. Drop down south from Yosemite and we will have dinner and a bedroom for you, as we say " We'll leave a light on for you." Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 If middle Tennessee is part of your route give me a shout out! Be glad to host a get to gether! Quote
40P10touring sedan Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I was going to say that when in NY, head over to the other side and see horseshoe falls too...a lessor known nice site{canuuk side}. Try highway 1 on the cali coast if you can..neat twisting road around the coastline but mind the "every other" beachs..they're nude beaches{are marked as I recall}. Drive thru the sequoya state park and drive thru a tree...a really big tree! The hit the grand canyon, then vegas...could try the alamo in texas if you were that way, Rt 66 up thru Illinois is pretty bumpy but totally nostalgic and you can see the highspeed rail system they're putting up near it, we have the now obsolete fermi lab particle accelorator by here in Batavia, Walter paytons roundhouse restaurant, the casino and home of Waynes World here in Aurora...ok, all they did was take a pic of the I-88 signs here, but still!... Think about Old Ironsides{USS Constitution ship} on the east coast, Cape Canaveral in florida...figure about 2 weeks of easy drivng to go coast to coast or faster with long driving days on the road... No matter what you do or where you go..have fun! Quote
claybill Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 a note.... most countries were founded by kings and cultures, and ruling families and , czars, and moguls and ethnic origins forever back in history.. the united states of america is the ONLY country that was founded on A PRINCIPLE. the principle of FREEDOM. COME AND ENJOY.! BILL Quote
pflaming Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) So far, Aussie, this is what you have traveling in a counter-clockwise circle LA - Las Vegas - Boulder Dam - Grand Canyon - Alamo, Tx - Elko, GA, Tenn, Philadelphia, Boston, New York State, Niagara Falls, Chicago. Fly to Denver and take the train up the canyon to Sacramento, CA Next to San Francisco and drive HYW 1 and see Big Sur, Herst Castle, California's coastal cities, Santa Barbara and the circle is complete. You'll miss Yosemite but sacrifices must be made. There are forum members all along this route. Others may fill in the gaps and you have a million dollar experience and you will see all the sights you had originally planned to see. Los Angeles is an experience, no doubt but I would limit my time there. JMPO Claybill's remark is right on targot except that Australia's history may be more like America's then Europes and Asias. greg g Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Both the USA and Auatralia were populated by societies castoffs. We as nations have in common language an uncomon interest in beer. I bring up Beer because it is the real reason the Pilgrams came ashore when they did. They had run out of Beer. Quote
