pflaming Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 I think it's a Diamond T Truck. The Diamond T emblem is on the leading edge of the hood. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 It is a Diamond T. They dabbled in the "light" truck market, but they didn't offer any 1/2 tons, I think all of their pick-ups were heavy duty 3/4 or 1 ton. Quote
greg g Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Looks like a 53 or so. Diamod T's were considered the Cadillac of trucks and were usually heavy duty as Dan mentioned. Some time in the 50's they fell on hard times and merged with REO Trucks, then they were bought out by White which became part of Volvo. During that time thier product lines got pretty muddled as they lost their focus on top of the line design and build quality. That one looks like they cobbled thier cab and fenders on chassis with an International harvestor bed. Quote
1940plymouth Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 I may be wrong, but I think Diamond T used the Internation bodies. This photo was taken in 1971 at Cape Lisbourne, Alaska. To me, the body of the truck looks like an International. I also remember that the dash was the same as the International at this point in time. This truck was used to build the radar site, then abandoned by the contractors. It sat in the same spot the whole year I was there Quote
Young Ed Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 It sure does look similar to Dads 55IHC Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 IHC trucks were as ugly as Studes back in the early 50's...last of the stylish IHC was the KB series..even then the chrome grill of the KB did not do anything but take away from the simplist easy on the eye appearance..the 41 K1 was simple yet truly a sharp looking truck with its double roll hood. this is my opinion and not necessary the shared truth among the public at large...feel free to disagree..but keep it to yourself...lol Quote
Young Ed Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Tim Tim Tim the R series IHCs are nice looking. The 2tone ones are even better. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Ed Ed Ed...beauty is in the eye of the beholder...compared to the some trucks, the R series is a swan among ugly ducklings..but even close up you will see the swam an ugly bird...best just viewed from afar..but compare them all against the Powell (by the way I saw one of these not long back) they all are design award winners...Powell, the Aztec of the pickups... Quote
Young Ed Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Ha Tim I'd love to have a Powell. So goofy looking but I think it'd be fun. You'd sure get some looks! You compare the IHC to second series 54 early 55 chevys I'd take the IHC anyday. The ford of the era is OK. I will say anyone whos worked on a IHC knows how rugged and overbuilt they are. Quote
1940plymouth Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 The Febuary '04 issue of "Vintage Truck" did a great article on the Powell pickups. They used '41 Plymouth chassis and other various parts. In one photo it looks like a '41 Plymouth dash coulster was used Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Ed...in case you forgot...my partiality to the K1 may be the fact that I own one...but..I loved their looks long before I found one...now talk about an ugly best, love it or hate it style, that is nothing but my 50 Studebaker sedan...personally I love it due to the very radial looks...The R series is a lot more sleek and curvy than the base truck of other makes for the era...and the flip flop hood makes for a nice conversation starter.. Quote

My first truck was a couple hundred bucks away from being a KB. Guy wouldn't deal on his price. Couple weeks later Dad found the 46 pickup I have now. As for the flipflop hood it sure makes working on them easy. Hood in the way-no problem undo both latches and toss that sucker aside. Quote
greg g Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 I see Mr Adams has his beholders out of focus again. In any case the character of a truck is of much more import than its appearence. To one must admit that may trucks with much character have over the tears lost whatever panache they may have at one time ben endowed with. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Greg..with apologies to you and your Stude truck..but I will have to still stand fast..but if its any consulation, I will take your truck over an Aztec...as I said, I own an ugly car or two. Ed, a freind of mine had a R series..I guess the grill is the major draw back to the style..a bit more of a flair here could have really set this truck off..the sleek lines contrast to the bulk of the center.. james curl Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 The problem that I found with the Studebaker pick ups of which I once had a 58 with V8 and Auto that had been my father in laws truck is the cab is too small. I am not large, 5' 10" and 175 but it has no leg room, you need short legs to drive it any distance. I practically gave it away because no one answered any of my adds. My wife traded it to a young man to help me work on the house, never did get all of the work out of him. He and is wife got a divorce shortly after their first child was born and he moved away. Quote
Harold M Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 Any one besides me ever shift the gears in a KB6 it is somthing you will not forget Quote
pflaming Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 Yes! It was a more precise tranny as I recall. You had to do it right. I liked to drive that truck but it was more demanding yet more powerful. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 Back to the original question........yes.....those who said Diamond T were correct. Not sure which year, but the guesses are probably about right. I agree -- they do resemble an International in my opinion. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 JUST FOR GREG................................... spotted these at the swap meet....sorry for the not so close ups for the wrecker..but traffic would have been rough pulling off as the north bound was quite thick..south..no traffic at all..but I be going north at the time.. Quote

Plymouthy Adams Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 panel truck...sorry FuryLee..in my walking by the truck I snapped the picture for this thread in particular..I did not even take a sideways glance at the panel..Its a huge show and I usually only do the parts for section..last thing I need to do is walk by a car that calls my name..I for some reason want to say it was a Ford..as I do recall seeing a sign to that effect in my walk...just not sure if the sign and this panel were the same.. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 4, 2012 Author Report Posted February 4, 2012 The panel looks like Ford to me. Quote

Thanks Tim/Bob. A panel truck is on my bucket list. Dad had a 49 Dodge when I was about 8 or 9. Don't know if it will ever happen, but it's a dream. Quote
