Thanks you guys! I sure needed all your help to get this far.

Merle - I want to bring her over to Fox Lake but I have nowhere to garage her here. So I might keep her on the farm for awhile. I am thinking about building a small barn on the lot next door then I would have a place for her.

Todd - I live in Fox Lake, IL about 10 miles from the WI border.

Check out the before and after shots below. What a difference three years makes.

Beautiful hauler, good work! Call her second woman...:)I'm a little confused on the front end treatment...chrome hood piece, red grill bars and black headlite rings......why not all chrome or red or black?

Edit from idiot, nevermind.....I see the before picture, duh!

The headlight doors would have originally been chromed, but I kind of like them black on that truck. The parking lamp doors I believe were originally black, so they are correct.

The larger trucks all had painted steel grill bars as standard, except for the top one under the hood which was stainless steel. Only the light trucks had the stainless grill bars until '50 when the painted steel became standard across the board.

you sure about the headlight doors? mine are black, too, and where the paint is scratched or lifting, it doesn't look like chrome underneath.

Lights might be a ground issue? Seems that is a VERY common issue with anything electrical on these trucks.

i second that. check your grounds for that circuit. heck, try running a ground wire directly from one of the lights to the frame to see if you can make them work temporarily (which would tell you it was a ground issue).

Fresh paint makes for poor grounds. VERY common on repaints.

The grille in my old and worn out 1948 2-1/2 tonner has black headlamp doors, painted grille, chrome hood Ornament and a chrome hood piece. Fenders and front bumpers black. All original.

Interesting... according to my parts manual there is only 1 part number shown for the headlight doors across the entire range. So why woulld the light trucks have chromed ones and the medium and large trucks have black ones when they are all supposed to be the same P/N (1239411)?

Merle;

I just paged through Don Bunn's book and you are correct, the light trucks seem to have chrome head light doors and the heavier trucks are black!
