Help! Fuel pump disaster!

Just arrived at the Rhythm Riot on the back of a flatbed truck.

Fuel pump problem.

The motor is a 51 Dodge D42 unit.

Did the pumps change through the years?

I need to source a kit or pump urgently so all advice appreciated.

According to NAPA the 1951 Coronet, Meadowbrook and Wayfarer all use part number NFP M847

Don't know it this will help you.

Will other years of Plymouth, Dodge and truck pumps be interchangeable?

I can get messages out to other owners who may be travelling to the festival, so it will help to know what my options are.

I believe the same fuel pump,(without the vacuum booster) will fit most Chrysler 6 cylinder engines from 1940 through 1951 -Dodge,Chrysler,Desoto,Plymouth

I think other years will interchange - but not totally sure.

You can compare the shape and size of the lever that goes into

the engine.

According to the Rock Auto website, the Carter M847 fits 1949-54 Plymouth and Dodge, as well as the 1952-53 Chrysler Windsor.

Like Ralph and Bob said any of them will bolt to your engine. The only complication you might have is if you happen to have those engine splash pan pieces. Are you sure you didn't have a dreaded pin failure? Mine recently wiggled out after about 17K miles on it.

Check to see if the pivot pin on the pump arm worked itself out. It might still be hanging there and can be pushed back in.

go electric,on my 47 pin came out, rod went inside the motor, hit the cam, then rods and out the bottom of the pan.

I got lucky 18 years ago — lost the pin into the engine and it's still there.

Thank you for the fast answers and useful advice. It was very much appreciated.

The problem was, indeed, a loose pivot pin, but all parts were present and serviceable and Paul Burnham (of Burnham Autos) successfully fixed the car for me so I was able to go out on the cruise and drive home in a perfectly-performing Plymouth.

Several people arrived at the festival with fuel pumps and spare parts, including a repair kit that someone had made a detour to collect for me.

I LOVE the camaraderie of the classic car guys.
