My son bought me a Dodge...OT

My son works with someone who had this car and intended to rebuild a 392 for it, but like a lot of guys, he got more interested in other things. He had taken the carb off to rebuild it, and ended up loosing most of the parts, so I have to find one. I have not heard it run yet, but the story goes it runs good and doesn't smoke, or anything like that, (but he couldn't drive it as it needs brakes), and the car has just over 50,000 original miles, so I intend to find a carb and go with what is there, as I am not particularly interested in getting into the rebuilding the 392, which came with the deal, and changing out the original if there is nothing major wrong with it, although my son is hot to put the hemi in it.

The car belonged to an Oklahoma State Representitive , as the story goes, which seems plausable as it has a State House of Reps sticker in the window. The only major bodywork is the rockers have some damage, but not so much that it is a big deal. The paint has some bad spots, but no major bodywork other than the rockers and a little rust in the trunk.

Although it's probably not a car I would have bought for myself, it looks like it might make a nice driver without a pile of work and money invested. Joel

Looks like a great find. Looks like a poly 318. Pushbutton auto. Should be a great car when you get it running again. I agree with just getting it going and leaving it. When I was in high school my Dad sold a perfect running 54 ford with a Yblock and like 32K miles. The next owner pulled out the Y block and stuck a slightly bigger one in just to gain a few cubes.

I believe it's a 325 poly. I am pretty much in the same place...if the original engine is running and moves the car down the road ok I am not one to mess with it, as a general rule. Beyond that I am not overly interested in higher horsepower cars, although I know plenty of guys are.

Iam not sure if it was a special order item, or some were sold with it.

It's titled an 1958.

What a great car Joel, gotta get down and see it some time. Your gona have fun with this one.......
Fred, It's looks to be in about the best shape of anything I ever started with. I will probably get it driving, then work on it along. I'll try to have it running when you get to come.

57 had faux dual headlamps, with the slightly smaller signal lamp next to the head lamp in one pod, the 58's had the real thing, with the signal relocated. to the grille assembly.

Nice car.

You could spiff it up slightly by adding the Royal Lancer spinner

wheel covers. This one with the knight head is the factory cap.

Plus a pair of those twin "fishing poles" - the dual rear antennas.

When you get tired of the car, and think about selling, I might be interested in coming down and taking a look at it. I have told my wife that the next old car I buy will be a '57 to '60 MoPar finmobile.

That's a neat ride. I've got a friend that's restoring a '57 Desoto firesweep. He finds alota leads on parts and info on The Forward Look Forum. He's really got me intersted in that era car. The lines and style are pretty sweet. Good luck with your new toy.
