Oberstar Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Will both of these FP work in a Chrysler flat 6? The pivot arm is 'down' on one and 'up' on the other. I went with the M2090 as NAPA had that one in stock. They didn't recognize the other although its recommended for my Spitfire block as well. I think I'm going insane on this issue... https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?A=NFPM2090_0256314514&An=599001+101949+50022+2022091 https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?A=AFP587_0252757422&An=599001+101949+50022+2022091 Quote
greg g Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Uhhh, one is being pictured upside down..........In my experience the glass is always on the bottom when the pump is mounted on the block. Quote
Oberstar Posted July 29, 2011 Author Report Posted July 29, 2011 Greg, you're absolutely right- it is upside down in the picture:o Quote
B1B Keven Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Does the orientation of the arm make any difference? I've seen some fuel pumps that the arm is bent and some that they're almost straight. Seems like they'd get tickled by the cam 90* from one another. Quote
Oberstar Posted July 29, 2011 Author Report Posted July 29, 2011 Keven, if you throw the pic back up of the original, guys will see the difference. Quote
B1B Keven Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Keven, if you throw the pic back up of the original, guys will see the difference. I deleted it yesterday. Quote
B1B Keven Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 These pics show the two different orientations of the arm. Quote
Oberstar Posted July 29, 2011 Author Report Posted July 29, 2011 I emailed Vintage Power Wagon, and they indicated that if it is indeed a Chrysler 251, then the pump is different than if it is a 230 or 218. I will use the original with the straight rocker arm for now, but I sure would like to get a compatible spare for the trunk:confused: Quote

The one on top is a 588 model and this was used onthe big block flat 6 Desoto/Chrylser and Dodge since these cars had electric wiper motors. from my literature this same pump was used up into the 40's So I would think that this would be the correct pump. Plese post the model and year of your Chrylser so I can look in my fuel pump catalogs. Rich Hartung Quote
B1B Keven Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 He's working on a 1941 Dodge Command Car with the 251 Spitfire. Quote
Oberstar Posted July 29, 2011 Author Report Posted July 29, 2011 Rich, the top model is now called an 847 through NAPA glass bowl interferes with my splash pan, but is 'probably' the most correct. The bottom is a M2090, but the metal tag reads 588. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Plese post the model and year of your Chrylser so I can look in my fuel pump catalogs. Rich Hartung Rich; It has been my assumption that the fuel pump is the same physical size for the 23" and 25" engines. I base my assumption on the fact that I bought a 588 pump for a 23" engine and used it on a 25" engine. I know there was a pump built with a vacuum assist for the wipers but I assume that is the same physical size for long and short block engines too. What does your catalog say about this? Quote
Oberstar Posted July 30, 2011 Author Report Posted July 30, 2011 Well Don, if you used a 588 on a 25in block... and it worked? That's confirmation that's good enough for me. But I'll keep the receipt just in case... Quote

P-12 Tommy Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Dang it Don! I haven't seen a pencil sharpener like that in years! lol Tom Quote
desoto1939 Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 When my FP went bad on my 39 Desoto I took it off the engine block. The AC tag was still on the FP and it was an AC588. I will look in my catalogs and get the various models. rich Quote
