still searching for replacement grille mouldings for my 1951 FARGO

I can't help you with the grille bars sorry Ron.

Your assumptions of the spare tyre mounted under the bed are correct. Hopefully the attached photos will help you. I have found both straight and curved carrier's (22-12-1) on the Oz trucks that I have played with. The end of the carrier closest to the rear of the truck is mounted (with a 2-staged bolt with butterfly nut) through a hole in the left chassis rail about 4 inches in from the end of the chassis rail. The front of the carrier is mounted with a long bolt through a hole into a small cross member (which runs across the chassis) about 2 feet in from the rear end of the chassis rail. I notice that different securing bolts are shown in the diagram from the USA manual that I have pictured. Maybe you did things different over there?

Hi Ron,

I have a spare set of Grille bars but not the stainles ones. These are hard to get and some charge a fortune for them. The best thing is either to use the painted onesand or keep on looking on ebay..If you want the ones I have spare let me know , my email is burhof@gmail.com. I can get a quote to send them to you.

Regards ryan

Does anyone know where I can find a set of grille bars for my 51 Fargo? I would also like to know where is the spare tire mounted on the FARGO. I think it may be under the bed, but I am not sure.

I have seen some grille work on a truck I believe is a 51 Dodge in a slavage near here while driving by, but that have paint on them, so I wouldn't know if they are stainless underneath the paint or not, if that is what you are looking for. I am not sure what goes with Fargos, as we don't have many of them around here. Most of them you can find probably will need restoration, of which there are numerous places to send them, (check Hemmings magazine for sources, and ask on the forum others who they used for that) I believe there is a restoration man that is a member. Maybe you will run across a complete grille all ready to bolt on, but they seem to be pretty scarce that way, no matter what make and model.

I bought my own buffer, and studied the craft of stainless restoration online several years ago, when I had a car that needed a lot of trim work restored, and I couldn't afford to pay what it would cost to have it professionally done. Figured if I was going to be messing with old cars I better learn to do it for myself. During the course of my recent restoration of my Dodge pickup (which is a 49, thus a little different), I ended up with 3 of the middle size bars that were the nicest to work with, so I just used all that size. Not strictly original, if a person wants to keep everything 100% authentic, but I like the way it looks, and they are still 49 Dodge pickup parts. Good Luck, Joel

I took some pictures of a Fargo at the Iola car show, the couple were from Canada. I have good closeups and will post as soon as my wife gets them off of my camera. I remember the chrome and the ram are completely different than dodges.

Mine are all pretty bad on my 50...and honestly I'm scared to take them off incase the studs all snap off...so I've left them so far.

I take it nobody make an aftermarket bar, or has anyone tried to make their own bars? I've seen 1 or 2 trucks with them removed..but it looks funny to me...

Out of the three trucks, I like the looks of the Fargo best. While at Iola, did you notice any new trends in color preference. Seems like every three or four year some color and shades of it become the new "hot" color. I'm starting to see more copper toned new cars on the street and wondering if it's carrying over into the street rod and custom world.

Interesting you should mention copper tones. I gave my first B1B to my son 6 years ago and he thought it needed a complete restoration, it was time, I had it through high school and ran it hard for 24 years. We have been tring to find someone to do the paint and I keep asking him what color. He is never sure and always seemed to lein towards Black & charcoal. Yesterday we went on a charity motorcycle ride and at one of the stops my son found me and said he found what color he likes "positive this time". It was a 2005 Harley with rootbeer & black along with Gold striping. We talked to the owner and he is going to get us paint colors. We are drawing up something different for the color breaks. My plan is to get it painted before he changes his mind.

P.S. Dave, where in South Wisconsin are you from?

This is waiting for the final color. Belongs to one of my son's buddies. Stipulation was my son had to shoot it. It's ready, needs final washdown, wipedown, and masking. I guess the answer is, yes, cars too.

the picture of your bolts looks oddly like what was on my truck but more of a mass of rust.

Maybe after Todd. He's got second dibs or first, depending on Mark. Where were all you guys when I was looking for work? If this keeps up, I'll need to get a seperate building.

This post has sure gone off topic. Now that we know what Fargo stainless looks like, we can watch for it..
