Guys,

I will be heading to Joplin on Friday once I get home from my business trip. Will try to touch base with Bob while there.

Ryno from the HAMB lives in the Joplin area and is offering his home and shop for a staging area for HAMBers wanting to help. He is coordinating with one of the local agencies needing volunteers and supplies. There will be several of us hauling supplies and working this weekend. I grew up in the Joplin area and still have family there so I feel a big draw to go do what I can.

Denise (Hotrodladycruiser) on the HAMB who some of you know is coordinating collection of gift cards (or funds) from Wal Mart / Target to help families who need essentials. I have asked Denise to send me her contact info and will send it to any member here through PM that might want to donate.

Send me a PM and I will get the info to you.

If it's OK with GTK, I've been thinking that maybe all of us at p15-d24.com should start a fund for Bob T.

It could help him, or he could donate it to the wider fund if he prefers.

Does anyone want to open an account and co-ordinate this?

I'd do it, but I'm in the UK, so there would be difficulties with currency conversion etc.

There are over 300 people on here with more than 100 posts.

We can really do something great if we each make a donation.

I'm in for $25.

I do not see the need to open an acount nor start a fund. Those wishing to assist Bob should simply send donations directly to him. I just called him again and his Plymouth survived with minor damage. He drove it to a friends house for storage. Funds can be sent to the following address.

If you want to you can PayPal me and I will give to Bob this weekend.

Send me a PM and I will give you the PayPal info for your donation.

If we do this I would keep a running list of donations on this thread and/or I would want someone else to volunteer to be a "secretary" and agree to be PMed with the donation info so that everything is above board and there are no questions.

I'd be happy to keep track on a spreadsheet.

Emails would be better. No chance of overflowing my PM box that way. lionseye@att.net Make sure you include your forum handle in the email somewhere.

Already started a basic spreadsheet from the first 3 PMs.

Hi guys. Nice gesture.

My internet service is local and not sure if they are back in operation

yet. (Tues) On top of that, I'm using my sister in law's computer.

Mine is still sitting in the house (what's left) and will try to get it out

tomorrow. I think the screen may be outta there. The main box

may be OK as it's under the desk. Will just have to drag it out to

see.

Will see if I can get onto my service from another avenue.

Haven't figured out yet where to get service as my phone line is

also out....I think Mary Ann has requested discontinuing phone

service, along with other utilities until the house is rebuilt. Nothing

is simple some days.

Bob

Edit.......I finally figured out how to get to our internet service from sis in law's

computer. It seems to be now up and running.

I think that about 1/2 of the 500,000 folks in the area are suffering losses..and to collect for a verifiable charity that will indeed benefit all would be in good standing but to select an individual for direct support in the name of this forum..no so, example, we have had floods from last year with folk suffereing direct and high rebuild costs, we have had others on certain islands that also suffered loss to home and car, not to mention our brethern in Australia and list goes on, where was the outpouring of concern for the folks in Japan...what you wish to do as an indiviidual here is of your own conern and who you choose to help likewise..but just keep in mind that you are slighting many many individual members of this forum in your current undertaking...

Bob I feel for you loss and know that a hard and long rebuild is ahead of you and this is not saying you are not deserving..it is only that others in the past could have been helped in like manner and was not...

Call me hard and uncaring if you wish but it is my opinion this action can and will cause hard feelings among the membership..

Tim,

what you wish to do as an indiviidual here is of your own conern and who you choose to help likewise

You are absolutely correct and that is exactly what everyone who has contributed is doing, they are choosing to help Bob and Mary Ann as individuals.

Nowhere is it suggested that this is being done in the name of the P15-D24 site.

I happen to know Bob personally why the others choose to donate is up to them. My support to the rest of the community will come in the form of funds donated and four days of labor this weekend assisting in the recovery efforts in Joplin.

As for the Japan reference, I happen to work for a Japanese company that was and still is effecected by the earthquake / tsunami. Just because I did not post it here does not mean that I did not contribute to that as well. I am sure that others here did likewise.

Here is a link to a video of a convience store that was hit by the tornado. It was taken by one of the 18 or so customers seeking cover in the building. You can not see much but the audio is more than enough.

Then this is a video of the aftermath from one of the people in the building at the time.

I can easily read your concern for the community personally as you grew up there and have family yet in the area..and if you were to read close the posts other than your own you will clearly see exactly what I am talking about..it is not my intent to prevent aid from going to an area..it is only why just this one and not any in the past and will this be something that will come up now with every negative impact nature should throw our way...just something to reflect upon..

Tim, I agree, I, just this morning , before reading your posts, made the basic same comment. Our local church has a member with family that had husband killed and home destroyed. They (we) are sending them something to assist this family, fine, but personally, I think a donation , ( or additional donation ) should be thru a organization such as the Red Cross, cuz they are there, they know what is needed. What I'm refferring to is ;;;;;;many local schools and Churches are 'collection; points for donated materails and / or supplies. Unless there is a material or supply shortage where the Red Cross and Fema can not get what they need, , I think a monetary donation would be better,,maybe even blood .............My personal offer to 'Bob' stills stands, this has nothing to do that ....just my thoughts.........Larry

Tim, I see your point and would normally agree with you. Your opinion is valid but I think exceptions can be made as with most things. Bob is a very old member of this forum with a vast number of posts and I am sure he has made many true friends on this forum through his gentle and thoughtful nature. I believe that is why in this case the decision by some members to make donations has arisen. Just my two cents worth.

for the record..any and all donations one wants to individually send Bob out of the goodness of your own heart I support and commend you all..

please read my post more carefully for I think you are not seeing the big picture here...the mention was made for the forum to solicit...if GTK wants to come on here and endorse a special call for donations to a said individual then so be it blessed..but that will smack square in the face to our many other members who have in the past suffered tragedy and loss without said actions or support...that is all I am going to say...

We had already made a donation via the Red Cross directed to the Joplin relief fund.

With the looks of the weather some further action looks like it might be needed by others in statee in te mid west.
