Mystery emblems. 40 or 41 Dodge maybe ?

I've had these emblems for a couple of years and am not sure what year they are for. I'm guessing 40 or 41 Dodge.

Anyone here know ? They are about 4.5" overall.

You are right but.......These are about half the size of the truck emblems.

That's a possibility although I have never seen one like this on a dash.

Who on this forum owns a 40 or 41 Dodge ? They might have the answer.

They appear to be from the front nose of the 1940 Dodge car (one on either side). Nothing like that on the '41. My '40 is not out of winter hibernation yet so I can't measure mine (yet) but here is a photo.

Reg, we only got 2 per car over here, both on the nose, have never noticed the one on the bootlid of US cars before............tho' the Oz cars being Plymouth based, used the 40 Plymouth number plate light/handle assembly......notice the different front sheetmetal on my car compared to that on Phils......andyd

My 1940 trunk lid looks like this:

Senility is wonderfull :). On the left in this photo is my friends Canadian 1940 Dodge coupe (model D16) while on the right is my 1940 Model D14 sedan (made in Canada but US style).

Hey thanks Phil. The mystery is solved. Thanks guys.

I think I'll transform my ClubCar utility cart into a 40/53 Dodge with these emblems and a hood ornament. I've got to since my Grandkids call me Grandpa Dodge because most everything on 4 wheels here is a Dodge. Even my Chinese Yanmar tractor in the background is sporting a Dodge hood ornament.

So the back of a canadian 40 Dodge coupe looks just like a US 40 Plymouth coupe. Fasinating:)

The Canadian-built 1940 Dodge D14 (Custom) looked just like the US Dodge which actually used the Plymouth body in 1940.

The Canadian Dodge coupe in the photo is a D16 (DeLuxe) model which was a Plymouth DeLuxe with Dodge grille and nameplates. Notice the taillights are the same as the Plymouth.

Chrysler of Canada also offered a lower priced Plymouth-based Dodge, the D15 Kingsway - same as the Plymouth Roadking. The D15 was also built in Detroit for export markets although the American export D15 offered all Plymouth body styles in the one series. D15 chassis were also shipped to countries such as Australia.

If you look at the Q and A section at the bottom of the listing it turns out to be a tropy topper made by the Dodge Trophy Company.

Thanks Reg, I saw that. Interesting choice of words for the description by the seller though.

The thought of embarrassment did cross my mind if one were to drive around with that item attached to their truck as a hood ornament.
