desoto1939 Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 This picture of my 39 Desoto was taken at the WWII renactment weeken at the reading Pa airport. The young lady definately fits the time and era for the car and what a great dress she was wearing. This is Miss June 1942 in my 1939 Desoto. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote

desoto1939 Posted March 31, 2011 Author Report Posted March 31, 2011 This young lady was one of the re-enactors at the event. i asked her if she would stand by the car so I could take her picture. She said yes. We took some shots of her standing by the car and then she asked if she could sit inthe car. I SAID BE MY QUEST. At this point she did not have her leg cross and she told me to wait a minute. She then turned towards me and then rolled up her dress to above her upper knee and then exposed the garter stap with her stockings. Oh and yes the stockings even had the seam in the back. She then told that she was ready for the picture to be taken. I took several with her camera. She then told me to turn around and there was a line of 20-25 guys with their cameras ready to take her picture. The next thing I heard was from all of the guys was " Do it for the Troops" The young lady was about 6 foot 3 inches and was a perfect model for the car. I hope you enjoy the picture. I will going back this year and I hope I can get another young lady to also do a photo shoot with the car. This is the kind of fun that we all should have with the car. rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote

If you are at the show please come by and look for me I would like to meet you. You took a great photo of the car. Groucho looks good but I prefer the young lady. If you are around at this years show maybe we can get some young ladies to pose by the car. I have a Nikon. The first picture was taken with a Sony. Rich hartung Quote

They have the central mechanism like those posted above but, as already mentioned, the originally came with clamps at each end that made for a very dubious fixing. They've now been adapted so I still have the central mechanism but a welded 'prong' on the trailing edge now slots into a 'socket' and the front edge bolts up from underneath, into a captive nut. Solid as a rock. They've also been rolled slightly at the trailing edge, to provide a better fit. Quote

Several weeks ago I was helping out at my daughters indoor colorguard and percussion competition. There was a gentleman that was helping the students from the coatesville School district. He had a B17 hat on and I struck up a conversation whith him about the reading WWII show and he is the photogropher for the event and he happened to mention the 39 Desoto with Groucho onthe fender. He told me that he has taken severalphotos of the car. I know that either it was you or your friend that is also standing next to the car when it was raining several years ago. Thansk for reposting the picture and the compliments on the car. It is stillnot completely resoted but we have alot of fun with it. rich Hartung Quote
1940plymouth Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 A few years ago there was a photo of a girl with long legs "Checking" the oil in a P15. The photo was from the '40's, I think. Always liked that photo, but just was searching and couldn't find it Quote
