JIPJOBXX Posted November 10, 2010 Author Report Posted November 10, 2010 That sceen took about one minute and then packed up in a box and sent to China!!! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Looks to me like it still had a few good usable parts on it, like the rear bumper, tail lights and some wheel trim rings. Ahhh, well. Quote
Oldguy48 Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 OK...It's not a Mopar, but that is still a disturbing sight. Quote
1940plymouth Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Too bad, my first car in 1966 was a 1951 Ford. Just hate to see the old ones crushed, not matter who made them Quote
tysouthwick Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Why do people do this to old cars! it really bothers me, my next door neighbor had a 1957 cadillac fleetwood and he took it to a recycling place! Quote
Oldguy48 Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Oh Man...I still can't get the image of that Ford being destroyed out of my head. I will probably have trouble sleeping tonight. I love my p15, but I also have a soft spot in my heart for old Fords. Quote
oldodge41 Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 A good friend of mine would cry if he saw a '50 Ford go like that. What a shame! Better to let it rust or part it out than scrap it. Quote
RobertKB Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Scrapyard owners are not sentimental. They can't afford to be. Scrap steel is scrap steel and worth money. I would blame the people who dumped the car there. As many said, sad to see, as I like all old cars.......just prefer Mopars. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted November 10, 2010 Author Report Posted November 10, 2010 Yep I was surprised to see them lift oft the car oft that flat bed and just tare it apart. I thought they would sit it down in some part of the junk yard and just let someone take what they wanted but nope. They did salvage the engine and transmission and then the rest to generous metals over in Tacoma! Quote
49roadster Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Just to keep the record stright. It's 1949 Quote
49 Dodge Dude Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 That just breaks my heart. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted November 10, 2010 Author Report Posted November 10, 2010 You I have the same feeling when a guy tells me about a nice old restorable car and I go over and look at it and its all hashed up! A friend of mine has a model A roadster in his back yard (Body only) and he started many years ago to try and hot rod it. Well now it wouldn't make a good peice of yard art!!! Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 You guy's are too sensitive, they all can't be saved. I remember early in my hobby life when I went to the junk yarda around the country. I would look at a car and try to size up what it would take to fix it. I think after a few years It would tire me out. I stopped doing that, a yard you drive you guy's crazy. I feel for the 49 however if someone wanted it they could have saved it. I have seen these cats crush a running car. As was mentioned it's cash to them a living and everybody has to eat:) Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 creates scarcity...drives the prices up..good for the hobbist..BUT..some parts chould have been removed and recycled.. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 There's a salvage dealier about 20 miles from here who bought out a batch of old cars from an older man who had been saving them for many years. I'm sure he probably crushed the worst ones, but he had quite a few restorable, fairly complete, vehicles sitting around for sale. And his prices didn't seem too bad. There were 3 or 4 old 40s, or 50s Mopars among them. One part of the problem is that someone who wants a certain car is in a distant state from where the vehicle is for sale. It's pretty hard to justify buying a $1500 project car and then paying another $800 or more to have it shipped. I've seen many I would like to have but I have no place to store them, let alone enough play money to fix them. If someone could solve those problems, it might be a real deal. Quote
1955 plymouth Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 (edited) That sight is pretty disturbing! Just this week I have been givin the opportunity to receive a '51 Chevy 2 ton truck for free, even including tow to my place. I am on the fence about this, I suppose I could park it out next to the old '48 International I got about a year ago for free?.. I think I'd rather do that than see it head for scrap??? Edited November 13, 2010 by 1955 plymouth ADDING PICS OF MY OLD TRUCKS. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 You could turn down a free truck including delivery?? Not me. You would be sorry later. Quote
1940plymouth Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 A member of our antique tractor club asked me if I wanted this car, he said that he didn't want to scrap it, but give it to a good home. He told me if I wanted it to come get it and it was mine for free. So even though I don't really need it, it is cleaned up and sitting inside the "Cover It" right now. I know I can't save them all, but it sure if fun trying:) Quote

1940plymouth Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 yes, it is a '48 Pontiac Silver Streak with a flathead six and auto tranny, The body is solid, as is the frame, but the floor needs repair. It sat outside for 20 years or better after the body had been worked on. We have most of the trim except the grille, hood trim and trunk lid trim. The interior is shot as the windows were left open all those years:(, but she is salvageable:) I don't have lots of photos, but here are some Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 That Pontiac trim. Very distinctive.Don't remember what car the 3rd pic was, but it always caught my eye because that stainless was so sharp, and the rest was so rusty Believe it is a Caddy Quote
